got an air leak at #3 intake.

found it last night with the help of a new friend that has a shop down the road.
i have stopped and talked to him off and over the past few years. he is big into BMW and mercedes. he has an 88 M6.

we found it with spray. then we tried to smoke it to be sure but we could not see anything. then we sprayed water at it and it about died.

he suggested putting a straight edge onthe intake and the heads to make sure they are true. what do you think? does it happen?

i am thinking the waste gate air leak was the original problem and i created this one when i pulled the intake. i did have problems with the intake bolts coming lose but i put blue loctite on them, which i regreated as soon as i did it because now i cant tell if bolt is lose again. i hope the studs are not pulling.

Sounds like just a cracked injector block, I had it happen years ago. pulled the manifold and CIS off the top of the engine, replaced all 6 with aluminum blocks(I believe Chris at TK is the current goto source)
and never had another problem.
the OEM blocks just get brittle over the years and crack.

How much torque had you put on the intake bolts? The shop manual says 22ft lbs. Some of mine were also quite loose, and the car was running fine. During winter maintenance I snug them up to 13 lbs, as cranking down any tighter on the plastic injector blocks feels too close to the threshold.
