New Clutch

Here are some pic 's of the Beast getting a new clutch, and while we are in there a valve adjustment, all new seals and a few new lines that were dried out and on the verge of falling apart.

How come you're keeping all your emissions stuff on Tim? In NY no more emission inspections on cars 25 years or older. I hated that stuff.

What type of clutch/pressure plate will you use? Your HP & torque numbers would be helpful to know for context.

Great looking car. I like those Fiske.

Al I don't know why I think for originality. I might pull it out don't know yet. OldSpool,I purchased a lightweight clutch package for my G50/50 from Turbokraft. I was going to go with the KEP but after hearing how hard the pedal feel is I went with Chris's recommendation. He recommended Sachs Race Engineering Sport aluminum pressure plate and their 240mm clutch disk. Chris said they would hold up to 550ft lb. to the rear wheels w/no slipping. I am no where near that so I should be fine. I only have bolt on's Turbo, headers, exhaust, intercooler and 1bar spring. Hope this helps...

New clutch... always fun stuff. And a LWFW... win!

How much of a re-seal? Nice. Congrats, enjoy!

So yeah thanks for breaking the "hey I'm so awesome I Chuck Norris'd my engine in/out in 27min today including a full rebuild, and then I punched a nun" mold and sharing your humility... nice to not be alone heh heh. Tho I did do my own valve adj 8-)...

Your motor looks clean and dry - miles? Mine's gotten crud'd up from running the open breather like a dumbarse... need a catchcan.

Say, what centercaps you runnin on yer Fikse's?

I'd like to run crests (pointed correctly at the valvestems butofcourse - hahahahahaa) on me Profils but tried one I had layin around today and while the circumference is about right the mounting ear/tabs are too far inboard... damn.

ps. heh... jah mon... DITCH that infernal emissions crap... that pump literally weighs like 50lbs (oh I miiiight be embellishing a tad but still)!! Insanity. And is the drivebelt still attached (parasite!)? Even more wersererer 8-)

you pull that air pump, and all the plumbing, and you won't be pulling your engine to adjust your valves, much easier! i know you pulled for a clutch, just sayin....

Paul just doing all gaskets and hoses that would be a pain with engine in. Motor is dry,57k miles and when I bought it 5 years ago I had no former records. Now I have some I had a set of plain center caps made by Fikse and I mounted a 356 Crest to them,Yes they are pointed at the valve stems

OldSpool no problem, give Chris at Turbokraft a call he will steer u in the right direction.

Man (there I go again!) I don't know where all this disinformation is surfacing from regarding KEP being a royal beetch to push in (that's what she said). Stage 1 is barely stiffer than an old worn out stock clutch. Now the mega-KEP's might be a bit of a "push", but you don't need that kind of clamping power anyway unless really pushing the HP envelope.

Just had to share my thoughts, and I'm certain the clutch you chose will be just perfect in all regards.

Ditch the emissions crap. It serves no positive purpose other than being great sources of failure.

And oh.....nice eye candy, I love seeing engines yanked out of their roost. Also drooling over the garage art hanging on the wall.....my apologies if it's someone attached to you.

As someone who used to squat a lot, my stg II is very hard. At lights, my leg will start shaking after awhile.

Interesting about the Sachs PP. Cost?

Kep

I have a stage 2 KEP and Its not stiff to me. Im sure driving in Dallas traffic that it will wear me out...but not bad at all...Im thinking I should have gone stiffer because it is not holding the HP from the car..

Good info. Coincidentally I need a clutch so I called Chris at turbokraft and I'm prolly going with the Sachs RE kit.

Take pics of the kit and install please. The more info the better!!!

Thanks in advance!

Tippy the pressure plate was a little over $1100. Mine is going to be a little different as I have a G50/50 shortened bell housing. I believe the PP is what they used in the Ruff 5 speed.
