Admirable and humble response there Mark... expected nothing less actually. Unfortunatley, that only makes us want to help more muwahahahahaaa...

YGM & FYI yer PMbox be full

One highlight from the msg I'll share here is regarding the difference in this case vs. the other instances you cited:

fire sucks

Much different IMO than I wrecked my car I blew up my car my car was stolen. It's violating. You lost so much. You didn't do anything wrong (well, we won't keep berating you regarding yer ins angle).

And I hear you on charity situations being for sick family or whatever, but these things are like family to most of us. And, what's $100 amongst (350) friends??? 8-)

We can do this. We will do this. You just have to agree you'll buy another one, we'll do the rest.

thanks Ronnie... looking now...

Count me in, Mark has been beat up by this evil inferno. A burgular takes what he wants, but the fire takes everything ! Thieves can be caught and do the time. I think that his home being rebuilt by the insurance, and our help in the 930 dept. should bring a positive closure to Mark's current state of affairs.

Put me down for a 'hunge too. We spend $100 on nothing so easily and so many times a week it'll be nice to know where at least one of them went.
Gotta love this forum.

Yep I agree, we can't let a little stink'n pride get in the way...lets make sure this does NOT loose steam! It sounds like Mark is at least willing to consider this donation to his cause.

If you crash your car insurance pays, if it gets stolen insurance pays, but fire simply sucks the life out of you...end of story.

I too might have a lead on a good candidate, it's meteor gray with a black interior, presently taken apart, but all there. I'll drop the guy a line and see if he is interested in parting with it.

Mr. Gimpy !!!!

What the hell, I don't keep in touch and you burn your dam house down.

You have forgotten a couple of the man commandments, along with never
catching your dick in your zipper is men don't go to the store. You always did
have to learn these things the hard way.

I want you to step back and remember the only end of the world is the
end of the world. When the s--- comes down so hard you need a bigger
hat you have to muster all that bone stubbornness I know you have and
out last it.

We all love ya and we'll be here to help. If you get feeling like you need
somebody's shoes to piss on just give the old guy a call 260-925-0219

Mark, I believe you were the first to give me guidance a few years ago when I was new to the 930 and have continued to offer tips to me and so many others. You've shown you're a good man time and again. God's been good to me and I am happy to return the gift. Once things get shaken out, let's do it Pelicans.

~28 so far by rough count, $2800... 'nuff said!

I'm waiting for an email reply back from Mark w/ some info before I get this moving.

I looked @ that youcaring site Ronnie, looks like they forego the 5% admin fee and just pass along the processing fee from say Pay Pal (3%). If we raised $35k that's roughly a grand, or 10 extra donors' worth.

Initially I was thinking fukkthat, why throw that money away and we could just DIY it. But I think maybe having a centralized / official site with some peripheral services / benefit may have some value as well as affording some validity / official-nessitude of it all. So I may in fact go that route.

Thoughts???

Thinking... link this to all our Bookfaces (I have one but nevvvvvver use it - kindasorta hugelyghey IMO), LinkedIn (I've got a rather ubersilly contact network... Brock Yates? Bob Varsha? Tanner Foust? Bruce Canepa? Keith Martin? Denise McCluggage? Randy Pobst? All the editors of alllll the car rags & blogs? LOL it hasn't done me a lick of good... yet! Never know, they may be compelled here.), LinkedIn sub-groups (I'm a member in a bunch of auto ones), emails to each of our regional PCA heads for site / periodical inclusion, PCA (I'll ping Pete Stout), other enthusiast forums each of us belong to, our own email networks (I'm sure more than a few of us have some higher net worth automotively sympathetic contacts), etc.

I'm certain this will gain some traction.

Fire is a total hoor. While not to the extent of Mark's loss, well maybe in relative terms... I had my '76 Westy go up (mag block!) in a total loss pulling into my highschool parking lot 1000yrs ago - didn't get a dime out of it. Seen in background har:

Further insult was that was not 2wks after we'd lost my dad suddenly (also which I didn't get a dime out of), which was the day after my 18th bday party - talk about kicks in zedick! 'Good times'.

That which does not keel you, only makes you stronger.

Agreed tho on momentum here... we need to launch this stat. Awaiting Sir Markalot's reply, Kplsthxbye.

Hey Walt-

Yes, Pete's published me before while @ Excellence and I'll reach out to him on this. I will also try Greg Brown @ Excellence, Jalopnik, and a few other options.

Reading youcaring's testimonials page, seems there are a number of fire-related success stories... a couple w/ 30grand raised in a month or two.

Paul, so Paypal still charges 3% even for donation transactions? I didn't think is was that high, but would have to look again.

I agree that it would probably be better to use a donation site as opposed to a grass roots deal, as most that would contribute are practically total strangers, and this way at least seems more official (like you mentioned).

I know that Mark will be self-conscious about the idea that sites like that are meant for people with crushing diseases, and other trauma, but I noticed that this site makes it clear that there are many, by their definition, worthy reasons for raising assistance monies (neighbor in need, tuition assistance, pet-rescue, and so forth). And you are right, having a fire, which you did not set, burn you out, is very different than crashing your car while going twice the posted speed limit, etc.

It looks like the 2.9% fee Paypal charges is for credit, and debit, card processing - Paypal balance and/or checking account transfers are free (according to info on the PP website).
