Disaster strikes, I'm finished (GRAFFIC!!)

Friends, grab a stiff drink - you'll need it (has been working for me anyway). Saturday night, I come home from a 20 minute trip to the grocery store to find my house in flames. 12 firefighters and three trucks put it out before it burned down the whole damb sheebang. Nobody home but my dogs and African Gray...and the firefighters rescued them.

Started in the garage, and guess what was stored in there. Everything....every focking thing...in the garage is melted down, major FUBAR. The 930, 3 dirt bikes, one Harley, and my Mistu 3000GT parked out in the driveway, all my tools....all toast.

It's done, it's over, it's been fun, but time to pick up the pieces. I have no idea yet what the cause was (the firefighters investigation points to my main power feed at the breaker panel, a major short) but I guess we'll have to wait for the insurance investigator to make sure I wasn't doing anything fraudulent (as in arson) or that there wasn't something else they can blame it on and not pay out. Have I ever told you how I feel about insurance companies? Let's hope I change my mind about them.

This'll tear your hearts out. I'll still lurk around here but for sure cannot see myself ever behind the wheel of a 930 again. Once I get a chance I'll hose down the engine bay and see if it's even worth pulling and parting out. Most likely, not. 20 gallons of gasoline did the nasty on everything. The house is not habitable for the foreseeable future. Luckily my 86 year old mom lives just a few blocks away.

Mark, I'm speechless. My sincere condolences and thanks that you and yours are safe. Fire is an evil b**ch. Sick. I hope when the pain and shock wear off you'll be back in the saddle.

You and the kids(dogs & the bird) are OK, the rest can be replaced. Sorry about the rest of your things, especially the turbo, what a mess.

If you decide not to find another and you are ever in Missouri I'll let you drive mine.

I hope you do get another, that way you will still be active on the boards.

Again, very sorry to hear about your loss.

Mike

WOW, Mark, what a royal ***** slap! Those pictures really are hard on the eyes! What a shame that something you've worked so hard on is literally up in smoke! I hope your insurance comes through and that you can get another 930 at some point.

I've experienced "total loss" before with a Ducati racebike I built myself (not from fire, however, but from a "racing incident") - it sure can have a "twilight zone" effect on you when your machine goes from awesome to s@it in two seconds!

It's amazing how it looks like the wheels completely burned up!

I think this is the only time I'd have wished a 930 would be outside in a driveway versus a 3000GT!

Sorry for your loss....

Mark, I clicked on the thread not knowing what I might find. That, other than some bad health news, is as bad as it could have been. I can't believe those pictures.
Nothing to say that will change anything but keep posting here through the insurance battles. One of the other posters cars was hit and he just went through a whole market valuation assessment that you may be able to leverage.
Feeling for you this night.
Ken

Oh Mark... total loss of words here.

Thank goodness no one was hurt, and the rest of the house is salvageable. Garage toys suck to loose, but pictures, family heirlooms, etc. are more invaluable.

My most sincere condolences and best wishes towards a positive resolution for you my friend...

That is terrible~ Thankfully you, your family and pets were not harmed. Hopefully your insurance company makes you financially whole again, with as little pain as possible~
