i think it is finally fixed

sorry about the rambling

but what a dumb A i can be.
in short, put the intake sys back on, drive down the road. sounds much better but man the brake pedal is rock hard and the boost gauge is zero. DUH, i left the brake booster hose off. well the fact that i went half a turn richer on the mixture did raise some questions.

spent most of the day in the car yesterday. WOW. what a difference. smoother, quieter(surprising), much better to drive. there is no more bucking, or the sense of a spark plug trying to fire. i dont get why it is quieter though. the exhaust note is much better. oh and the idle. it always seemed to idle pretty good, but now it is silky smooth.

but, it seems to have less power. i had to lean it out a point when i got home last night. seemed to be better this morning. oh, i also set my CP back to spec of 3.6bar. i was expecting a big increase in power/response but its not there.
i will check out the mixture this after noon with the LM.

this car is sooo close to being a "no excuse" car. you know, " the car is 25 years old, its going have things wrong with it" excuse.
all that is left is i cant unlock the driver door with the key, the 2 front speakers dont work and it sounds like my left rear tire is bad. it makes noise when driving.

i ended up filling the pits with some JB weld. then i used copper spray on the gaskets but only on the head side and the intake side. kept cheking the intake bolts for 24hrs. i had a few that kept tightening up.

now that i look back on the symptoms i should have seen it.
i could set the idle mixture fine, but as the RPM's went up, it leaned out to about 3500, then it would get richer. on boost was very rich.
as the RPM's went up, i sucked in more air which leaned it out. then on boost, air was leaking out but i was still dumping in the same fuel so it was richer.

oh, then i came SOOO close to getting rear ended last night. i think some idiot must have been texting. i slowed to cross some RRtracks and he did not. he had to have been within 2ft of hitting me. scared me to death. thats 2 close calls.
about 2 weeks ago i backed half way out of the garage to keep the exhaust from getting in the house but so my wife did not have to go all the way out in the cold.
well she hit the door closer. i hear screams and i look up to the door coming down on my fenders. i slam it in reverse, by this time there is NO going forward, put donw some rubber just in time. she peed her pants and i about had a heart attack. took us both a good half hour to calm down.

i am still not sure if the wastegate leaking was the original problem and i introduced the intake leak or if i had 2 leaks all along.
