How does Haggerty come up with there values.
Just looked up my 86 930 On Haggertys ins. site. Holy *****. If my car is a #2 or #3 Makes it worth 60k to 80k
Can any one tell me how they come up with these numbers. FNG |
I'm not sure how they come up with their numbers but I can tell you that I looked on their site couple of months ago and the "average" value they showed was $19k lower than what they show now!

I thought their charts looked a bit "hockey stickish" but then we have this data point...recent sale of '78 930 on ebay. Rare color, but pretty rough car (a solid #4 car by Hagerty standards). Hagerty chart shows #4 condition '78 and '79 models are valued at ~65k. This car sold at 60k - so it got 92% of Hagerty value.
'78-'79 are particularly interesting for me since that's what I own. |

He came to our club meeting and explained a few things He is a real car guy, and knows a lot of people, and knows a lot of people who know a lot of people. It is basically a car counting and supply approach. There are so many made, so many wrecked, so many FUBAR, which leaves the remaking ones. Of these, some are in the market, and some aren't. When people start wanting them more, and wanting to sell them less, the price starts to take off.

This thread inspired me to log on and look at Hagerty's site. Holy Buckets!
So I consider my car to be a 2.5 on their scale. In Aug 2013 it is valued at around $45k and now it is valued at somewhere between $65-$75k???? That seems a little crazy but I will not argue with it.....until I want to buy another one. The same thing appears to be happening to the NA Cars as well. The 996tt's are the bargains now. |

You got that right^^ bid to 130k already!

Unbelievable and 8 days to go on that auction.
Were the USA bound cars really adjusted that high off the ground when new? USA DOT bumper hight law? It has the usual warped glove box door most older ones have. |

Based on Hagerty's updated valuations I contacted them yesterday and, for an additional $32.00 per year, upped the value of my No. 3 car to $85K. Seems kinda crazy but Hagerty set the market so once I was quoted a premium of less than three dollars a month more than it was at $40K I didn't hesitate to make the change. |

ahh.. you editted your post and removed the interior picture and a comment you made on my comment on the interior.
I have email notifications enabled on new posts in threads I've posted in so your original post and interior picture are in my email inbox. Yeah, the glove box door looks relatively straight and the dash isn't swollen above the AC duct. That seems kind of rare in the older ones and I guess it means this car didn't sit and bake in the hot sun alot and was garaged. I see scratches in the upper dash behind the steering wheel and I guess thats from women with real long finger nails scraping the dash as they turned the wheel. This is your first interior picture I'm referring to before and now.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392522044.jpg nice car. |
nice car.[/QUOTE]
Thanks, I found a picture of the other side but deleted that also as i thought they might be to self serving. I'll re-post. I originally got it 10 years ago with 14K miles, sold it and got it back last year with 33K. Your right, his wife drove it some for the finger nail marks. And yes it was very well taken care of, even sheep skin covers on the seats and a removeable dash cover when not inside since new. I'll bet it would clean up very nice like the black one, but I like them to be left, carefully driven with whatever minor flaws happen. They can be fixed for show or if offered for sale, but not by me, unless cabin fever sets in. |

If you want I'll delete my post with your picture if I can.

There is a lot of people who lost there shirt in the past few years in 'collectable' cars, namely American cars from the 50's and 60's.
Hagerty bases the "value" of the cars not only on desirability, but demographics. Baby-boomers are starting to fall off the radar screen, and thus the people who find/found these cars of significance simply are falling by the wayside. Some responses from an earlier post I mentioned, people thought I was crazy mentioning the fact that the car of the future will make eventually diminish automobile racing a thing of the past. With no talent required in the future to drive, who(m) will identify with someone who can? That 'talent' will become irrelevant. Youth is also a factor...todays kids are more interested in the latest I=Phone, or app. What we find of 'importance' doesn't mean others share that same sentiment. Turning 16 back in the day was a right of passage, as getting your drivers license was the 'norm'. The numbers don't support that anymore, as they are waiting later and later to do so, just as delaying marriage...they can't be bothered because it's an enormous amount of responsibility, and the days of affordable housing is non-existent. |
About time
Really guys, don't you think the market finally caught up? I have felt for years our 930's have been quite undervalued. Sure low mileage, clean cars will always bring top dollar, but it looks as though now our cars are closer to what they are worth.

TilikumTurbo, Maybe out there, but lots of young from both genders drooling over my 930s whenever being driven or at local shows. We do not have many restrictions and lots of nice roads, few cops ( and many of those are car nuts) and race tracks without noise limits. Most of the kids get their licenses ASAP out here in the fly over zone and can't wait to drive something cool . So send me the people that think your way with nice 930s to sell, I'd be very interested to help them out.:)
