Weather has been so $hitty that I haven't been able to drive since receiving the advice, but hopefully it works. Guy at NHS was very friendly and helpful.

Another rattle source I managed to trace to the drivers window mechanism - turned out to be a little wheel that runs in a track that raises and lowers the window. Sorry this is the best beer infused technical description I can come up with right now, but it's pretty obvious when the door panel is off and it's in front of you. Only rattled when the window was up.
Had this rattle 12 years ago - took the door panel off, lubed it up and that fixed it for a while. Needs to be done again though. If it ever warms up here I can get started on all the car projects that can't happen when it's minus friggin 20.

A couple of solutions for you Nancy-boys that trouble over cockpit rattles:
1) try making gear changes ABOVE 2000 RPM once in a while, 2) switch out your WAM cd for Slipknot 9.0 Live and turn the volume up beyond your pre-set 2 on the dial! And if none of the above works, try growing a pair!!! ![]() |

As a 930 newbee, I have been amazed that the car has no rattles or sqweeks. 37 years old and 108K miles and still strong.

I got rid of an annoying driver door rattle when I first got my car. When you take the door panel off you'll see a long steel linkage rod going from the interior door lock button bellcrank over to the door latch mechanism.
There are little plastic bushings where that rod bends and goes through and hooks up to other mechanical parts and they wear and go away after a while and the rod becomes looser and can rattle. Mine was rattleing against the door frame behind the door panel. I put a piece skinny clear PVC hose over the rod where it was rattleing against the door frame and now it's quiet. Rubber vacuum line would work too. You have to take the door card panel off and find all the linkage rods including the interior door pull lever in the door handle that loosen up and can rattle. Spraying the long rubber door gasket the door seals against when you close it from end to end with silicone spray gets rid of annoying squeaks from the doors and is good for the rubber gasket. That goes for all cars.. especially old BMW's. May not be your rattle but worth a try anyway. The NHS gauge rattle fix is nice to know, I never would haver thought of twisting the gauge and hose to dampen it. Mine occasionally does it too. Sounds kinda like a small tambourine being shaken while accelerating slowly at lower rpms around town. Maybe stuffing some cotton into the hose with a small screwdriver would work too. |

Have the same problem with my boost gauge , I just don't hear it any more. As for a rattle I had one I couldn't find. Drove me nuts finally narrowed it down to pass door. Removed panel and found an extra alarm key .. My local wrench said he searched for one on a customer car in the late 80s and found a beer can in the driver door cavity. Wish I could have a beer at lunch as I heard they had beer vending machines at the factory
