Matching VIN

Should have a VIN# something like 93D007####? 93A was 1980, 93B 1981, Etc.... last 4 digits is production number. located in front trunk, passenger side next to spare tire on a plate and stamped into cross plate in front of smugglers box, also passenger side. Also stamped into knee plate above padding drivers side. And yes, engine has different Number, 930.101.###.3R, or similar. Euro side front fender turn signals missing?
Also front Valance has integrated fog lamps, this didn't occur till later?
Love that its sans a sunroof. one less issue to deal with. smog pump still installed? Cruise control module?
Mine came with original KMH speedo in a box, gave me a little more re-assurance of mileage.
Curious about the "door braces" being discussed, does this require just removing the door panels to see? Haven't noticed any door welding on my 1980 euro. although it was brought into the states as a 79, I think this avoided some attention.
Awesome purchase, beautiful car!

Edit,
I am wrong about VIN#, only the 1980 ROW had 93A007####. was mistaken. guess I have a bit more research to do.
There was an A series for 1980, B series for 81, etc.. gets confusing.
Also, what is my engine number stamp 930.101.104.3R?
Should start a new post on this!

You are wrong on a number of things here... the 93d007*** number is the engine serial number, not the VIN number... The 930.101.### number you are quoting has nothing to do with the engine number... that is simply a part on the engine, most likely the fan housing because it sits right up top and is the first number people see.

The VIN number is a WP0ZZZXXXXXXX number and will be located in the front trunk area which I know the OP knows where this is just above the spare tire. Door jam should have one too but I understand this is missing... most importantly this car should have an import tag on it...

EDIT: Oh and unless Porsche painted the door latch on ROW 930's that drivers door has been repainted... as I would suspect much of the car has~

Time to do a bit more research~

Vin#'s or le Vin du diable

since we are all seekers of wisdom, I won't claim to know everything ( DO NOT TELL MY WIFE THIS!!)
But I can assure you that my 1980 VIN# is 93A0070025. Can't be disputed.
correct that the part# on my engine is not my engine #.

I have tried putting together sources of info regarding models, VINS, body types, engine types, etc.... Time is not on my side. I think there is enough info on our hosts forum to answer just about any and all questions one would have, barring the next question that is asked.

cheers,
ken

Well, that VIN number is validation it's not a US Car. So is the recent "barn-find" have a 17 alpha-numeric 'VIN'?

If the car is a 1983, then we do know it must be grey-market since Porsche did not sell the 930 between 1980-85 in the US. Looking also inside the drivers door panel(where you pop the hood release, you would also find a US EPA sticker stating conformance to the regulations and lower you would find included in the mfgs sticker the claim:" This vehicle conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety and bumper standards in effect to the date of manufacture shown".

It may have been bought grey-market, shipped here and never federalized, then driven and parked.

Your best bet may be to find an international buyer(such as Canada or Europe), and be done with it, for your greatest return on investment. Trying now to federalize a 31 year old grey-market car could become a financial abyss.

Good luck

Btw, How much are you asking. Not for me, but if the price is fair, I can try and pass it on.

ZZZ on the frame mean absolutely nothing...

Back then, all the cars including the one going to the US or Canada had ZZZ in position 4, 5 & 6 on the VIN on the frame.

Canadian Car are not ROW nor Gray market.

Post a photo of the VIN tag from the door jam, if it has ZZZ then it an ROW car.

Also, the 10th digit is a D not a 0; WP0ZZZ93ZDS000

No need to hide the last 3 digits either, it would tell us how early the car is in the production years.

That is wierd bc my 81 Euro was sold in Germany per info from Porsche then shipped over here and it has the ZZZ, so not sure how accurate that is.

texis300

The Z in the 9th Position is for ROW. US/Canada car have a digit as a checksum, so your VIN on the door jam should match the one on the body.

Under the front hood is the only location I can find a vin#. On the previous page I posted pics of the door jamb area on the driver side. No other indicators that I see.

Contact any local Porsche Dealer...ask for the Parts dept. Give them the VIN...if they have no record of it, or they can't find it in their database, it's almost absolutely certain to be grey-market.

You did check and run that VIN with local authorities to make sure this wasn't stolen and stashed away...any plates as well inside or outside the car? Old Registration?
