Petey and DokktahJ: tackle Pike's Peak in their 935 repro

dudes

if you hadn't noticed / known... this sh!!t's verymuch fer REAL (apparently I sukk at the intarwebz and cannot figure out how to post a pic from bookface here, so here's a linky):

https://www.facebook.com/539366216086949/photos/a.589186491104921.1073741830.539366216086949/762925587064343/?type=1&theater

and damn did it sneak up on me - Petey'd told me back this spring he was gunning to run this, and POOF! Next thing I know the event's DONE! whoops - meant to wellwish his goatass! I don't do BookFace or whatever and I'm baulsdeep in my career change this month, or I'd been better briefed on their status. D'oh!

https://www.facebook.com/539366216086949/photos/a.589186491104921.1073741830.539366216086949/760824590607776/?type=1&theater

anywho... seems like some beyond excellent adventures out thar for them!!! Such as, say... a Jeff Zwart shot:

https://www.facebook.com/539366216086949/photos/a.589186491104921.1073741830.539366216086949/761877267169175/?type=1&theater

and some Grassroots Motorsports coverage:

Amazing Pictures from the First Day at Pikes Peak: Grassroots Motorsports

To say this is impressive is beyond an understatement! Despite a cam tensioner failure leading to early retirement, they got some great runs in.

DAYUM does that car look sound and GO the part!!! Holy FARK when that thing gets up on rev / boost... lions, tigers, and bears - OH MY!!!

D-Zug Products Porsche 935 K3 at Pikes Peak - YouTube

If you've never met the Dynamic Duo, Petey and Justin are awesome dudes, and their passion, focus, and intensity to make this happen are immeasurable. I'm so freakin proud of them... this is quite the feat for them. Hopefully the exposure / experience allows them to parlay and leverage into further success for them and D-Zug.

Oh yeah Pete and Justin are cool guys. It's amazing how much they accomplished with their K3 on top of running D-Zug. They must be really busy boost freaks since they are not around here much but I totally understand. Wow...that one cool run up Pikes Peak in the K3. Good run Pete! Bummer about not being able to continue though. There's always next year!

Thanks for bringing this up Paul!!!

And oh yeah...looks like D-Zug got Jeff Zwart's attention among others!!

213 of us see this, and only 1 compelled to comment

I'm shocked

used to be a time here where our camaraderie on this board would have us rallying around this feat with some kudos, accolades, and excitement

is the lack due to their Pelican absence and a defacto shunning of some sort? I'd think not, buuuut...

odd guys, just odd (and a bit of a let down from ya'll, honestly)

the cricketry takes nothing away from their feat - damn proud of them boys for their endeavors

where's the WTF emoticon?

Hi Paul

Relax, nothing is lacking. Somehow I missed your post, it happens

I have been following their latest endeavor though not on fjæsbook myself either. I hoped to see it all on redbull tv, but was completely booked on the event day.

I wish I was there to support them, but again life had other plans, and as you know part is my life is stuck at a shop... At lot less fun than driving pikes peak.

I have been there once, not at race day, it is amazing and if my 930 was drivable I would happily have made the trip to CO. Actually, it deserves a Porsche boo(s)t camp if justin and Pete decides to partake next year as well.

Good on you for supporting them and posting the links. The K3 looks stunning. I am hoping to be able to follow their progress. Wether it be here, Facebook, blogs, or on tv.

Yeah, sorry Paul, haven't been on the board that much this week, been trying to get stuff done in the workshop and getting my ass kicked work-wise!! Baaad week. Need beers.

I'm going to have a proper look later this evening once the small person is tucked up, but yeah what an achievement - me too, completely forgot it was Pikes Peak time!!...(was too busy pmsl'ing at Englands pathetic early departure from the World Cup!!)

Very cool vid. It seems he spent the majority of the run in 2nd and 1st gear, but I could be wrong. Very cool sounds! I can only imagine the adrenaline rush you'd feel with a hill climb event like that.

Anyone ever do any driving up in the Santa Fe National Forest near Taos, NM? The views look very similar. Awesome stuff!

Chris.

Paul, thanks for posting D-zugs links to this years PPHC, an amazing accomplishment just to RUN there !
Last year I sent Juice some details on a custom tool used in final torquing the flat fan nut...no idea they were going up to the Pike.
It does take a few times at that course to get everything sorted, and big jewels to run it aggressively.
My neighbors are into their 4th event there, and took 2nd place to Romain Dumas (first) in unlimited class this year.
Julian Mann and Rick Knoop in their 21st century version of the '58 Lister.
Powered by an all aluminum Patton built v8 with 13:1 c/r.
Here is some heli-footage of their time attack.
Congrats to Juicer +the D-Zug crew !

Set your own music to the video, I like Highway to Hell with ++ db's !

Paulie, Mike, everyone,
Thank you for the support, Pikes Peak was an adventure! we had some bad luck but it was an amazing week filled with amazing people from Dave, Joe, Jeb, and Matt at Porsche of Colorado Springs who opened up their dealership to us for a home away from home shop, to Jeff Zwart, Betim and Joey of BBI for their pit road machine shop. The camaraderie of the teams and drivers on the mountain is something truly unique in motorsports and makes Pikes Peak a very special place.

We learned a lot this year and hopefully it will translate into a fast time up the mountain.

In the video we were a couple hundred hp down on power( we were still figuring out how to reroute boost lines for altitude running .7 and 1.0 bar instead of our usual 1.2-1.5 bar) so most of my run was in 2nd however we were running road race gearing so 1st goes to 60, 2nd 100, 3rd 139, 4th 198.

Marty,
Its funny you mention Rick Knoop as I had a nice conversation with him while waiting to come back down the mountain after one of our practice runs. Funny he is an ex 935 guy. I wish I had time to bench race with him over a few beers.

enough of my ramblings, there were some amazing photographers on the mountain over the week!

Cheers

Paul and everyone, thanks for the cheers.

We're just trying to keep the original flames alive in these days when the company is more worried about building efficient sedans and SUVs for the Chinese than how to keep a non-Mezger motor from exploding during street use in their 'track' car.

Great Pictures of the Car! Seen a lot of traffic on the web from running it. Is that Reapers old black car? Just curious, if so really like the updated bodywork. Really nice to see Dieter out enjoying some racing. Did you guys get him out to NC, or was this in Colorado? He is such a wealth of knowledge... One of the few last originals still around for sure! Miss being able to go over to Andial and talk to him and look at the latest projects...

Cheers to Friday!

P & J (hmm...sounds like peanut butter and jelly!)...it's good to hear from you guys over here again. Thanks for the update and pics!

Very true Justin...plus the co. seems to care too much about developing the most complicated cars nowadays (fast finger pointers) instead of building simple fast cars.

Congrats Pete and Justin. The car is looking fantastic, and sounds orgasmic.

Just gotta ask Pete...what's the story with the Haribo sponsored driving suit? Awesome. I love gummi bears. Where'd you score that?

I was sitting in the car staged in that Pic. Romain Dumas was sponsored by Haribo for the race.
