Turbo does not engage

Hello,

My friend had engine and fuel system (CIS) work done on his stock 1982 930. After this service, the Turbo is not engaging at all. Does anybody have any idea what can be causing this problme or where should they start to look at? Any guidance would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Slfan

Check for tears in the wastegate diaphragm. Fairly easy job. Does the boost come on at all?

Does the engine sound and drive normally but simply not achieve boost?
When the engine is at boost rpm and the throttle is punched what happens exactly?

Pputkowski, Benny771 and RarlyL8,

Thank you pitching in with your input. It is greatly appreciated. I will share this with my friend and ask him to describe me what exactly occurs and if any different sounds are generated when he steps on the accelerator and the turbo does not engage. Will be posting this info soon.

Regards,
Slfan

Intercooler not seated on O-rings? Perhaps the mechanic overlooked one of the bolts which hold it down.

If wastegate diaphragm is ruptured engine will overboost, not loose the boost.

I would start with checking intercooler O-rings and recirculating valve (which might be stuck in open position)...

Second this. Recirculating valve being hung up internally would cause this. Make sure the hoses going to the recirculating valve end caps are connected. You should be able to hear the piston inside the housing slamming back and forth when blipping the throttle hard from idle. Mine makes a slapping sound occasionally when I do this.
