Flame ring cut heads

Several years ago i bought a set of 930 rebuilt & ported heads with flame rings and now need to use them to replace my damaged stock heads. Must I cut flame rings into the stock cylinders? I plan to use Supertec head studs and will not run over 1 bar of boost. Maybe have the channels welded and recut the face? The cost to buy ni-resist rings and cut the cylinders wii put me over budget and delay my rebuild.

Probably you will. The concept is not to crush the sealing ring. It is made from high temperature stainless, and therefore very stiff. Head and cylinder are machined so that it is captured in the grooves with just a little spring to it. it is not squashed down to make a seal or anything like that.

Many 930 cylinder heads have had that modification done by TurboKraft. I would give them a call and see if they recognize their work. You will need to find out what seal ring your heads are designed. Machining your existing cylinders is typically in the ~$400 range.
