As The Werld Turnz: fix 1 thing 2 more arise! Door lock tumbler...
From the files of fix 1 thing, 2 more break (typical)...
So I got my car back on the road from all of winter's projects, only to have my sunroof decide to now only open 1/2 way. Perfect. Today's mess? Driver door handle lock tumbler now vacated from vehicle. Awesome. It'd been spinning freely when you turned the key for the past year or so - but it would still lock / unlock the car. Now? Nothing. Worse? OK I'll just be a TOTAL LOSER and lock / unlock the car from the passenger side, right? BZZZT! Locks the car, only for them to immediately UNLOCK. super - so now I cannot even take the car anywhere and leave it??? Then, I go back to driver's door... turn key a bunch trying to get it to bite... pull key out... entire lock barrel comes out w/ key. WTF?!? Any insight as to HOW THE EFF I go about remedying this appreciated. Kick me in the jimmy!!! DO IT AGAIN!!!!! I'm pretty certain I pissed off whatever Porsche Gods exist tho. Then I go to leave somewhere and thank goodness I looked and noticed - my passenger mirror glass was dangling by the wires. Would have lost that for sure and may have f'd up the paint in process. I hate those lock clips - apparently I borked it the first time. THEN... yeah, thank my friends visiting "hey your car looks better WITH painted H1 rings. No it looks better chrome". And they'd hang them and compare / contrast (they were off while I was playing w/ adjustment). Well, I'm sure you know what brilliance I managed... didn't note them 'hung', drove off. One's now flat, the other somewhat scuffed. Anyone got a spare? Oy... then I find my A8 opted to shed a front fog light grille for ? reason... and 2 tires corded on inners. a$$pen$ive week here... Paula, I'm 100% certain that what you are experiencing is payback for the Pimp my Ridz wheel conversion - bend over and take yer medicine, buddy boy (think football-sized suppository)!
Also, have you considered Robby's fix for various mechanical problems (blue silicone adhesive spread high and low throughout the car)? Get sum, bisch! |

Paul, gonna have to pull off the drivers side door panel to get to the lock innards. Been awhile, but if I recall the lock tumbler mechanism is held in place by a C-clip kind of thingy, or a set screw or or or......damned if I can remember precisely. Not a hugely difficult thing; I did it on both sides once to get the keys alike (some gracious person on here sent me a pile of tumbler pins so I could match up both sides....awesome).
With no tumbler in place on the drivers side, the linkage and whatnot aint hooked up properly, probably resulting in your door(s) not staying locked when you lock them from the passenger side. OK, I'm just rambling here....so what's new. Went up to the crispy critter today to see if I could get the doors open so as to begin cleaning out the detritus inside. NOT!!! Sheeet, need a bigger crowbar or cutoff saw. You haven't lived until you've purposely mangle the door of a 930 with a crowbar.

There is a micro switch someplace in there so with the lock tumbler out switch isn't closed. So it just unlocks again.

Paul,
I was just beginning to wonder where you were. Sounds like you got dumped on by a bucket of bad P-car juju. I have a similar lock problem, though both barrels are in place. Something to look forward to when I get my car back. Anyway, this thread offer some promise: Central lock help before I scrap the system Good luck with it. |

ah, I too often wonder where I am 8-/
mostly just been driving and enjoying the car, and trying NOT to work on it - a well earned break from that's been nice thanks for the link, will have a look hoping the backs of the handles are visible upon pulling the door cards, very curious what secures the tumbler to the handle - looking @ the working side should help hard to tear the car apart at all tho during what's left of driving season 8-) Sorry, my car-world was feeling verymuch like a country song yesterday. When it rains, it pours apparently... hope your repairs are coming along successfully! Last edited by krasuskyp; 09-01-2014 at 06:24 AM.. |
