Nice. What a career. Piech looked around for someone to make Porsche a player, and he chose Mezger, who more than rose to the challenge.

To be fair though, there was a turbocharged Corvair air cooled flat 6 in 1962.

Thanks for the link Paul. That was a good read.

930 and 991 turbo together...I know how big and bloated the 911 has become but holy sheet this really drives the point home:

Yeah you're right Jacob, I *almost* did a double-take to check it wasn't a Panamera! (kind of half-joking there!)

A few years ago for a birthday present, I was lucky enough to get one of the last available signed copies of his autobiography (although it's actually #5/125), which was jointly written by Peter Morgan. Not read it yet, keeping it for a nice (horrible) rainy winters Sunday, and plenty of fresh coffee

By coincidence, this lunchtime I popped into my local OPC on the way back from a meeting, collecting yet more sundry parts for the project, and this was parked up --->

My favourite part is where Metzger says that driving the 930 is what real driving is about. Took mine out last night, and couldn't agree more.

What is on the decal below the door? I can make out "Porsche" but I can't make out what is after that?

Chris

A few years ago I took a picture of my car next to a friend's 997 when we were out in the canyons. The 997 made my 930 look tiny, in comparison. Like a 3/4-size 911.

I think it says something like "PorscheMuseum" or something like that. All the road cars from the museum have that sticker along the lower door, for when they take them out at events to parade them about. I recall noticing that on the 356s, Abarths, Gmund coupe, etc. at Rennsport Reunion IV.
