valve adjustemt-remove header?
 
Hello,

a buddy has his 930 at Porsche for big service.
They told him, its necessary to remove headers or at least parts
from the exhaust for valve adjustemt.
Can't check this on my 930 because I have sport headers/ he has original headers.

Is it really necessary to touch the exhaust for valve adjustment/ valve cover clearance?

With aftermarket headers, it may happen.
I have the issue with my "European headers" on my race car, on the passenger side only.
I don't have to remove it though, just loosen the head bolts then it gives me enough room to remove the valve cover.

As said, buddy has original headers, should be no problem to remove the valve cover.

That's the facts. You can just squeek the lowers off by the air injection check valves. You do have to remove the diverter valves and hoses. Maybe they consider them exhaust parts.

...air injection was removed time ago, no problems with that stuff.

Think you'll have to remove the wastegate. It's a quick operation, and the gasket for it is included in the factory valve adjustment gasket kit.

waste gate has to come off as said. 4 bolts and the hose that goes to it.

Hmmm ... Is there a model difference here that I don't know about? I am doing an '88 right now and I was able to slide the lower past the WG without too much difficulty.

No model difference. The extra step makes the valve adjusment at least as much easier as it is difficult to get the wastegate off, IMHO.

I always leave the wastegate on during valve adjustments and just work around it. The motor has B&B headers so maybe that makes it easier.
Half of the right side lower valve cover webbing has been machined down a little to make more clearance for the wastegate. Not sure if all of them are like that, just certain years, or of it was done by someone before I got the car.

You should not have to remove anything, I never have. The valve cover on the wastegate side has fins that are cut down to allow the VC to be removed, I filed mine down a bit more to make it even easier. Sorry, I have not read thru this thread so if this is redundant info sorry....
