Changed oil today. Because I only had 12 quarts I thought I would see exactly how many quarts I drained out. I realize there may be another 2 quarts in the lines up to and including the cooler. No metal bits on either drain plugs. Put 11 quarts back in. Warmed it up to 80c. Read at the bottom of the dash gauge which has been spot on for 30 years. Added the other quart and it read at the 90% full. Several slow drips from the cam chain housings. Going on a 1,000 mile trip in the next month after letting this garage queen languish for far too many years.

The tapered collar and nut on the sway bar drop link bolt and the 2 bolts that mount sway bar to the chassis.

The spacer. On my car it is 1" so the bar clears the Trans mount. I had just put the aftermarket JW on mon. Both bolts backed out with lock nuts on top. Wtf? Thinking of using some strong epoxy and wiring the top of the bolt. There is barely enough room to get a wrench on the top of it.

The one on the right is one a friend made. The one in the foreground the JW. Had to drill wider holes in it to match up to the factory bracket and the tarret collar.

Thanks man!

I think my favorite part about that car so far (only driven it 20 miles) is the Dr. Jekyl / Mr. Hyde personality of it. Since it has control over the engine / gearbox / suspension, you can dial down for comfort or go full on silly with sport plus modes. In the full comfort mode it is quiet and rides similar to my X5 sport. In the full on sport plus mode, the exhaust valves open, it is loud and burbly, the suspension is stiff and the engine feels like it is angry and wants to run like a banshee.

I think BMW did a great job of making a car that can fill a lot of buckets. I needed a nice GT 4 door car that I can drive every day. Previously I felt the E39 M5 was the best car for me in this category and has always set the bar for me, if you will. I think the new F80 is the closest thing to that car to date so I could not be happier.

Now, I just need an excuse to go drive it more!!!! I have too many cars now and never enough time to drive them all!!

- Chris.

Another step forward ... finally!

Almost exactly one year after pulling it, the engine is back in the car.
