besides cool screen name - howbout some pixzorz, jah? |
Uncle on here turbocharged his old 3.0L SC for something like two grand tops.. would be easy to do something similar for the 3.6, plus maybe lower the comp if absolutely necessary
|
If your 3.6 is in good shape, you can do it for 10k, if shopping smartly and doing some work yourself. You have forged pistons that can be milled to 8:1 compression, better heads, and more displacement then 3.3. Your manifold and even headers can be reused. Not ideal, but even RUF has done it. You will need EFI, injectors, intercooler, muffler , and some fabrication. That should give you 500hp on pump gas, with more torque down low. Much faster package for the street.

3.6 is a good base for a 3.3 8:5:1 CR engine.
Replace the 964 crank with a 3.0 crank, and you will have a great 3.3 engine since the 3.0 has shorter stroke Then you will have the cost for EFI. Fuel rails can be used, + some other stuff. New exhaust, turbo and tuning Could be a nice project |
I purchased this 1979 targa V8 conversion on casters and in boxes with a single draw through turbo. I do appreciate a true 911, but this was a fun build. My first twins

that thing must be an ANIMAL how about some more pics, and preferably - vids?! not my baaaag, baaaaby... but that's pretty forkin cool... |
I have seen numerous Turbo and twin turbo builds on 964 and 993 engines. Low boost will produce roughly 425hp possibly a bit more depending on engine with between .03 and .035 bar.
I have seen track builds with this setup last 20-30k miles if well maintained and many race engines I have seen last as long. $10k is tight it will get you a stage 1 but stage 2 would be preferable and closer to $12k or more. If you plan on tracking it a stage 2 is a must with a large IC and custom plumbing. I am currently building a track build the engine will be a 993 varioram engine with twin turbos and a massive IC. I know this engine will take a beating but it should last me 20k track miles probably more with proper care, cooling and stock internals. This car will not be street legal but you could get similar results with a street exhaust. Mine will look similar to this one. BTW these drive far better than the Factory Turbo cars. No lag to speak of and all the boost is up high so it basically just adds a lot of upper end power and torque giving it a very linear N/A feel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421078669.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421078685.jpg |
The "Killer Eggplant" was turbocharged and converted to programmable EFI for <$10k. Very basic turbo system, not the most elegant, but it still completely dominated the supercharged 3.6L that preceded it.
Make it a totally DIY job, labor & fabrication -- you might refresh the 3.6 and turbocharge it for that much. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421086275.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421086397.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421086412.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421086425.jpg |
Here is a couple more pics of my V8 conversion, no video yet.
I am also torn between turbo or supercharging my Euro Row 85 TL Cab. Does anyone know if they offer a thicker head gasket to lower compression? I am going to pull the heads to have the valve guides done, and would like to prep it for boost. I am not interested in changing out pistons at this time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421088471.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421088505.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421088582.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421088695.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421088736.jpg |
Donovan Aluminum Block is a great idea. Put that engine in a 914 !
