Eye Watering Amelia Island Auction Results
I don't know if anyone paid attention to the prices that the 930's sold last weekend for but if they are any indication of the market you might want to take a step back. If you haven't bought one already or are holding one this is what happened with Ferraris a few years ago making them unattainable:
1979 Porsche 911 Turbo | Amelia Island 2015 | RM Sotheby's 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo 'Slant Nose' Cabriolet | Amelia Island 2015 | RM Sotheby's 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe | Amelia Island 2015 | RM Sotheby's |

Well I can only wish that I had 11k miles on my '87 car. Those are few and far between. Let's see, I have 12.4 times those miles, so that would put my car's value at about $17,500.
No, don't ask to buy it for that!!! ![]()

Besides, Mark, you can't sell - too many of us are shareholders in that car!

I would much rather have a $60k car that I can flog on a daily basis. But those numbers are CRAZY

I was down in Amelia Island this past weekend and attended the Gooding and RM auctions. In general Amelia Island auctions are a good venue for Porsches, along with Monterey. But more so than most of the other big auction events.
Air cooled 911s across the board are doing well over the last 6-12 months, including our 930s. Long hood 911s started the growth in values a couple years ago but now 930s, 993/964 Turbos, '74-76 MFI/Euro Carreras, '89 Speedsters, and other relatively unique or modest production cars have been doing well. FWIW most of these models had thousands (or tens of thousands) of cars produced. So there not as uber rare as some cars with production <500 or <100. But you've seen increases in other desirable models even that had production in the thousands in the last year or so (e.g. Jag E-Types).

Some have the bar of whatever they want set so high to get that exact car, all original paint, certain color or options, etc, with only a few left that way of the few that were built, they wait to long. My advice has always been get a good one and if the exact one comes your way sell it and pay the difference then. You will pay less that way as your car will have followed the market appreciation and still be able to own a decent ride. In a up market you want to get one ASAP. Many, in the past that could have bought cars that are now very valuable and virtually unobtainable, ended up with nothing. Don't believe me ? , just go to any auction, car show and you'll hear many sad stories. Forget the ideal used car buying model, a 930 isn't that anymore. At some value point restored vs original vs some restoration becomes almost a moot point.

The sad part is, at some point it will make everyone second guess throwing the cars around on mountain roads, which is sad. I bought mine back in 06 with 34K miles on it, for a while I was freaking out putting miles on it, watching where I parked it, then I just said what the heck, that was over 100K miles ago....hitting around 140k on it with no major work, just oil plugs and valve adj's......
