Yup, Chris has it correct. I bought the strongest set from https://www.ccc-motorsport.de/ and he sent the set you descriped earlier so even clutch shops have it wrong! Now I'm fighting with paypal as the seller claims he's right, DUH.

Here is a email from a Sachs performance tech that had to cut in when I guestioned another tech claiming the same bullsh... about how they are the same.

That’s the reason why there is a note in the description for the pressure plate.



The part number 88 3082 999 594 is the pressure plate with a lower clamp load. You have to use this clutch with the Sachs clutch disc 1861 568 331 .



The reason why we have two different clutches in our program is, that the original Sachs PP 3082 073 131 is not available anymore.



So if your car has no performance increase, you have to use the combination 88 3082 999 594 / 1861 568 331 .

If your car has a performance increase, you have to use the combination 88 3083 999 574 / 88 186. … .
IN the email there were pics of the catalog with "ONLY WITH 615" text that I had already told to the seller but he was all set to not listen to me anyway.

Ok, all case fasteners are out, including the hidden nut and washer down next to the timing chain, and the 3 back where the flywheel would hide them. (Flywheel is off obviously)
Tried splitting the case and got it to begin separating at the crank pulley but it does not want to budge back at the flywheel end of the case.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried tapping the crank pulley end back together and then tapping the flywheel end apart. The case could be binding due to crank pulley end separated.

It was just really tight on the studs. Bearings look virtually perfect.

Cleaned everything in the solvent tank. Crank is boxed up in an old ammo crate I had laying around.

Took the oil pump to bits. It looks really nice inside. Going to send the gears out to get REM super finished.

When taking your oil pump to bits, mark the location and CLOCKING of each gear to each other gear.

I have now been schooled by the authority on this that once worn in to each other there may be binding issues when I go to put this back together. This was my mistake. I may be able to recover from this without buying a new oil pump, I hope so as this one looked nearly perfect inside.

Cleaned all the case through bolts. They seem to have a very rough machined finish on the shank. I wrapped threads with tape, chucked them in the drill press, and used a Scotchbrite pad to clean them up.

Machinist just called, case, crank, rods and pistons are all very good. Cylinders on the other hand not so good, they are not round and have too much taper. I seem to remember the 3.2 cylinders can be bored out to 97mm and plated to match the pistons. Does anyone have a set of 3.2 cylinders they want to sell?

I can get my current cylinders stripped, honed round, plated, and finish honed to size for about $1300 from millennium. Would prefer to have full fins like the 95mm cylinders, but this build is not on an unlimited budget.

While waiting on engine machine work, there is still much to be done. Cleaning the intake today. Some white stains on the anodized finish. Planning to just get it as clean as I can and paint and bake with VHT satin black brake caliper paint

May soda blast a bit.

Intake manifold was really faded and tired after cleaning, so it's now got a thin coat of baked on satin black VHT.

I have a short neck Billy Boat intercooler and would like to run it with the later style bypass valve. So I bought one I thought was already cut and welded into an extension. Well, whoever made it didn't understand you can not weld galvanized steel to aluminum.......

This is what happens when you run of skill and have no plan B? They were not even able to make a clean square cut. So very tragic. I think I can salvage it.

Curious to hear how much balancing was actually required. Flywheels and pressure plates are sometimes changed with clutch discs of course, but no one opens the case and sends off the crank and rods along with it for balancing. Makes total sense if you’re mid-rebuild like you are, but scare me a little- how much was required to balance a supposedly balanced flywheel and pressure plate?

Before doing the balance work, the machinist commented that Porsche cranks are typically well balanced from the factory.
The flywheel is original to the car, I had it griound back to freshen it up. I haven't picked the parts up yet so don't know exactly how much material he took off the flywheel. He said the sport clutch pressure plate was balanced well.
We discussed my plans for the engine, and I said I was hoping to tune the car for about 330 hp, and that I had no plans to race it. It's not going to be a high RPM engine with CIS and the stock pancake manifold. So I paid a few bills to spin the entire rotating assembly, really for no compelling reason, except that now I know, and it makes me really happy to look at that picture.

Your goal of 330 hp should be easy peasy, even if that's at the flywheel not to the wheels. I think at this point I'm pushing 400 hp to the wheels, and that's basically with advanced bolt-ons, having proper control over the ignition timing is a big win.
