Agreed value insurance

Hello all,
Currently have Leland West insurance to cover my 87 930. Asked to up the value recently - max they will do is 91K for a premium of about $900.
I wanted to get a feeling from you guys about this quote and any other companies that I should investigate.
Thanks for all of your help!
ATB,
Mark

The $900 seems a bit high. I don't remember my Hagerty premium off the top of my head but I think it's maybe a third of what you're paying - certainly less than half. My valuation currently stands at $85K.

Hagerty

I think it depends on which state you reside in. My Hagerty premium was 531 on 30k value last year and went to 634 for the same value for 2015 on my 81 911 SC turbo in Texas. If I increase the value to 40k my premium will go to 792 for 2015.

Update! Working on a change to Leland West. They have approved me at 40k for $404.
About half of what Hagerty wanted for same coverage.

Steve, no offense but I'd SERIOUSLY take a strong effort at looking to increase your coverage from $40... at least $60k IMHO but likely / more realistically $75k.

Just sayin.

Speed, yikes... looks like Grundy's getting you for being in NY, and/or the jump from my $65k to your $82k is apparently pretty steep...

Agreed... Grundy's actually ups my insured value every year without my asking. Actually I think car is insured for 84k ... its been bumped 2k by Grundys each of the last 2 years.

i am going to look into this for my 930.
i have seen posts where people say hagerty wont insure it if you drive it to work even if it is not a DD. plus only 3500 miles a year.

i am thinking $75k.

I have Grundy and it is currently insured for $45k and called to increase it. They first told me that the NADA value was $38k, so I cant have any increase without an appraisal ($$$). I said so Grundy's says that my 930 has not appreciated in the past year and he said no, they know it has, so I asked why they wouldn't increase it. He said he doesn't know as he is not the underwriter, so I asked to speak to the underwriter. He went back to the u/w and they agreed to go to $60k max without him getting on the phone with me. I really think that they aren't actually considering the car's value here.
I really think $75k is not unreasonable for a car in my condition. Ive looked into Hagerty's, but they are more than triple the premium.

I am going to up it to $60k, but unless I can get them to agree to a higher value, I am going to start searching for a different insurance company.

For those that have Grundy's with higher valuations, how did you get it?

Just move to Hagerty.

^because triple the premium?^

?

and

they've got aforementioned mileage / usage restrictions, no? Grundy cheap. Grundy don't. So, yeah, that.

Jeff, I've got Grundy. Eeegads, that's brutal treatment... must be because... yer in Joisey! (I 1/2 keed!... 1/2).

I too was @ $40 or 45 up until last fall when the run up was beyond irrefutable.

I called them, said I wanted to increase my coverage. They asked to what. I asked for quotes @ $60 / 65 / 70 / 75 or some such.

The didn't blink, gave those to me in an instant.

I picked 65 for the time being ($439/yr, $0 ded, max limits).

They replied that @ that $ amount, they needed 2 current pics of the car.

I went out and snapped a pair on my phone (strategically ambiguous - like Ronknees - soas to not reveal any ahem... non-OEbits... not that it may / may not have mattered, but just in case-like), emailed them right over, remitted payment, and Bob was mah Uncle.

They either don't like the name Jeff, don't like Joisey (hmmmm), or... er... uh... um... I dunno?

Was a 5min call w/ zero effort for me - they didn't even flinch. I could have asked for $100k.

Good luck? 8-)

I think part of the problem may be that I just bought the car for $44k in Nov '13 and then got Grundy a couple months later. I really don't know why that matters now, but I cant think of any other reason. I think I will call them again before I go looking elsewhere. I will tell them your story and see what they say about that!

And Paul, admit it, you sent this pic and they were convinced that you were legit!

Bwhahahahhaaa, fersure Jeff! Kilroy was ^there^?

Hmmm, yeah - after I posted I realized I'd not quantified my history with them... $30k policy since '07, upped to 40 or 45 or whatever it was in 5/13, now 65 @ 10/14ish.

That may have something to do with it, sure.

Brought my car 4 years ago grundy's initially agreed to a 45k policy. A year later I bumped my car to 60k. A year after that I was exploring some mods for my car and during the a conversation with a well known shop in California I was advised to bump to 80k ... I have a limited production US car ... Silver with Black apparently not to many of those were made in 1980's. Grundy's never asked for any appraisals only pics. I must have had a nice underwriter.

I personally think 70-80k is a fair number for 930's ... my car is not perfect but it shows great, drives great and would be very hard to replace in silver and black
