Is a 64J engine code a 1988 3.2 engine? What is the difference between a 3.2 case and a 930 case? Thanks.

I found the answer on another thread. The 64J code does indicate a 1988 3.2 originally equipped with a cat. converter. I'm going to look at a hot rod turbo built from a 3.2 and want to understand how it compares to a 3.3. How does the 3.2 crank and rods stack up against the 3.3 turbo crank and rods? How about the cases themselves? I am assuming the cases are the same? I guess the question is if one took a 3.2 and put on 97mm jugs and 7:1 pistons with turbo heads, turbo intake, turbo cams, turbo exhaust, scavenge pump, turbo, IC and turbo fuel head will you essentially have the equivalent of 3.3 factory turbo both in power output and reliability/longevity for a street engine?

Thanks. How about the crank and rods, are they different between a 1988 3.2 and a turbo engine? I'm just trying to figure out exactly what is in this engine I'm going to look at, the owner doesn't have any records from the turbo conversion. It may be one of those "pay your money, take your chances" deals. Which is ok for the right price. I'll be tearing it down in any event and may go to efi for the rebuild. I've been going thru pics trying to read the case casting numbers on 3.2's and turbos to see if they are the same.

Answered my own question, just looked in the Pelican parts section. DUH. The 3.2 and Turbos have different case numbers, anyone know what the difference is?

I've always known them to the same, as well the rods. If going efi let me also assume you'd like more than standard power level? If so read up on the rod hardware. The turbo has a better oil pump. I believe that's it. You've covered the rest.

Thanks. Yeah, same part number for the rods, same number for the main bearings, different numbers for the crank? I'll have to wait until I look at it to see if it has 3.2 heads or 930 heads. It has the pancake manifold so I'm assuming turbo heads but you never know.. maybe it was ported to match the 3.2 heads.
