Advice on turbo

I have a 84 ROW 930 with some of Brian Bodart's finest parts on it. Headers, TiaL wastegate, street muffler, and (I believe) the 7200 turbo. I started to notice smoke regularly on startups. I've had the valve guides recently redone - so I suspected the turbo. And... It's the turbo. So off it comes to be sent out to be rebuilt.

But,

Before I do that, what say the forum: rebuild or go to a different/better turbo?

Those are the only mods on the engine and it's strictly a road car. Can I do better with a different turbo? Also using the downtime opportunity to swap out the factory shift assembly and (possibly) upgrade to a WEVO.

What do you guys think?

Most of our cars have a puff of smoke on start up. My rebuilt 7200 does it.. Does your continue to smoke and smoke while driving/under boost?

I'd opt to rebuild if that's the case. You're not going to find a better turbo for the price it's going to cost to rebuild. I had mine rebuilt by evergreen turbo in FL. He can upgrade your turbines as well if you want. Quick turn around and will come back looking brand new! It was $400 to rebuild a couple years ago. https://www.evergreenturbo.com/

A more modern ball bearing turbo is going to be better. Talk to turbokraft about which one will fit your needs.

Funny thing, but who are you John8?

It would seem as if you copy/pasted my same post from the other week only omitting the opening of "Hiya".

What gives?

Whoever they are they’re already banned. That was quick! And only after 3 posts, I wonder if that’s some sort of PP record.

my guess is this is one of our bellowed WTB reply scammers who seemed slightly to understand zero post user profiles do not work well for scamming - and not being able to formulate anything meaningful besides copy/paste - what better option to simply copy something random as a reply or thread, and hope for a silent and happy upgrade to a non-zero post WTB reply scammer status

It's a scammer. John8 send me a PM in regards to another WTB posting (distributor) stating he knew of someone who could help me out and included an email! So I searched John8's posts and ended up here, ha ha.

Incredible.
While this one was discovered quickly, I wonder how many others get through undetected?

Seems like there would be much much easier ways, less complicated, to scam, nyet?
