'79 930 VIN & Mfg Date info & questions...

Was wondering if anyone has any information on manufacturing dates per VIN # for 1979 930's. Is there anything officially published? I know a COA for a '79 doesn't show a manufacturing date but the door jam sticker does (as long as it's present and original).

Also I'm curious as why some VIN stickers are silver and some are black. The part number 930 701 112 04 seem to be for silver stickers while black part numbers end in 05. Black seem to be more prevelant in the later dates of '79.

Also production #'s seems to significantly vary during certain months just as an observation.

Below is what I've gathered so far:

9309800048 - 8/78
9309800093 - 9/78
9309800213 - 10/78
9309800264 - 11/78
9309800366 - 1/79
9309800483 - 3/79
9309800531 - 4/79
9309800696 - 7/79
9309800762 - 7/79
9309800874 - 9/79
9309800924 - 9/79
9309801096 - 11/79
9309801156 - 12/79

I'd be curious if anyone has any information to add to the above...

I have 9309800815 with a manufacture date of 8/79. This was one of the last cars before the switch to the 85MPH speedo and flush headlight washers.

VIN sticker varied for contrast, based on the color of the car. Silver was for darker colors. I've been collecting images online and I'll post them when I get a chance.

There is nothing, I know of, published, that shows production dates for all of the '79 930's. Cotton's, 930 book references a split at 0816/0817 for the '79/'80 production runs but I have seen a slightly lower numbered 08/79 build NA '79 which might indicate a split closer to a total of 800 '79 vs. 390 '80 total build units. puggi's post above further confirms this.

Yes production numbers did significantly vary. By June '79 Porsche was on the way to increasing USA 1979 930 production requirements by an additional 70% per month through December '79 as it continued to build these cars alongside their normal 1980 production vehicles.

The VIN Stickers were Silver (930 701 112 04) for the Black, Brown, Grey/Anthracite cars and Black (930 701 112 05) for the Reds, Silver, White, Yellow, Lt. Blue cars. Kenik is correct, it was done based on contrast not on period of production for the NA '79 930's.

Great information on the color of the stickers, I wasn't aware of that. Did that color change also apply to the "Non-Catalyst" sticker above the VIN sticker in the door jam?

9309800625 4/79, minerva blue with silver VIN plate. Facebook '79 930 turbo registry should have more VIN pics and production dates.

Interesting, can't say that I have ever seen one with the 3rd line text "Applicable to 1979...Vehicles".

Interesting. I've always felt 625 didn't fit the sequence. Can anyone corroborate?
