Turning a whore into a lady... the tale of one '79 930...

Some of you guys may remember this car for sale a while back in Costa Mesa. We bought it and reversed the unfortunate period cosmetic modifications then gave it a full re-spray. Engine was taken down to the studs and re-sealed while the body work was being completed. Now she is sitting pretty - figured you guys may enjoy seeing some pictures! All work was completed by Carolina Coach Crafters in Mooresville, NC - total time on the project was 3.5 months.

The day she was delivered:

And the finished product!

Wow what a beautiful car! Those fender vents and boxed rockers are so hard to look at, her new look is much nicer!

Looks great stock. Before looked OK if there was a performance reason to upgrade body changes, wheels etc ( form follows function in Porsche speak ), however with nothing done to improve performance it was just a dyke. So turning a dyke back to a lady is fine if you are not of that persuasion. Personally I like nice originals that have always been that way or real nicely modded ones by those who did it right with Porsche Motorsports developed speed stuff. This car was obviously not done one by the masters. So much better now, put back to original look, as was done. Looks nice.

Thanks to all the compliments - with only 38,000 original miles she was worth the effort to take back to stock!

Slutty? well here is a contestant.. A 1979 930 modded right , when you could do it, just put the stuff in/on, if you had a extra $150K or so to spend back then. Everything fits right in. Done about 20 years ago when /if you could get Porsche Motorsports parts along with Holcombe ( Mode) and others to get it done. The original special 964 3.6s were not certified for USA so this was the way to get one.
Mine is similar to these specials that were in an recent article in Panorama #695 but would be considered "modded" ( undesirable) by many purists. The GT1 and RS special factory body and interior was used, but motor was built disregarding any limitations the factory had. Sooo, to get the factory cars up to this power level ( I'm sure it can be done), they would also have to be modded. So much for the modded detractors. A little over only 18K miles and is just nuts to drive. Still on six injectors @ 1 bar, however this is a 12 injector system so more fuel can be added to a second tune using more boost when these other six are hooked up. Going in next week to dyno tune for this extra fuel and HP.

I've noticed those fender vents on a few turbo cars. Was that a factory option for a couple years or did all turbo cars come like that for a couple years?

Part of 1987 to 1989 special wishes 505 USA or 506 in Europe option and available thru Porsche prior to 87 by special order. They are not fender vents but originally ducts for oil coolers and ventilation for brakes etc. Copies could be found made by marketeers for Do Da cars. Here are some legit ones on an 1984 935 Kremer high performance street version.

Factory modded originals are also very nice. Not everyone knew, had the $$$ or lived where they could get the specials. Nice car.

silver turbo looks a million times better. i hate those side vents, they look cheezy. looks like the yellow one needs the same treatment, bring it back to original.
