Time to replace my turbo? GT3071R
Hi Guys, so I'm pretty sure the oil seals in my GT3071R .82 are gone, it is now blowing oil, a small amount, into my intake and when on a hill leaning down it leaks oil into the exhaust making quite a smoke show, not cool.
I have always been happy with this turbo, been on the car for around 6 years trouble free. I got a quote for $500 + parts for a rebuild but at $1300, I tink I would be better off buying a new upgraded GTX model to replace it, hey have a billet wheel and are said to be even quicker spool. Question: - Should I try to rebuild it myself? - Get the GTX? Anyone running one? - Get something else? Only runs 7psi and don't really want to run any more boost right now as it doesn't have a tail or an intercooler. Cheers! |
That's a small turbo. Even smaller than mine. What's the response like? You're only running 7 psi because you have high compression I assume? I bet you have almost no lag!
If I were you I'd get the gtx |
I read they are not rebuildable by a DIY'er?

Thanks for the replies guys! |
The GTX3071R flows the same as a GT3076R, but it still has a smaller 71mm compressor wheel. It will easily support 450 HP. Just installed one on my 3.0 liter Turbo. As soon as I get my new WBO sensor controller wired in, I will find out how responsive it is.

Spence.. WTF? Where've you been man?
Have you visited the states lately? Paul |
Hey Paul! I haven't been back for a long time but will be there most of September, mainly LA but if I go north I'll make my way over. Please tell me the flat nose is running?!
