Ok I knew something was going to be wrong.

Who can tell me what's wrong in this picture?
I have a good idea but want to see if anyone else knows what's causing this.
I have a bit of a hodgepodge of parts but felt confident enough to get started on the engine install which required me to get the engine put back together. Clutch is new because of the 930 gearbox swap and swap again to short 930. I have bought two pressureplates, one for long bell 930 and then a short pressure plate for the shirt 930. The disk is the same for both? I thought. Perhaps one is thinner?
Or is the ring gear in the wrong spot?
It seems like maybe my ring gear needs some relief machines or drilled. Is this what I should do?
The picture doesn't show but the ring gear doesn't have a hole where I've seen some do. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1439616953.jpg

Outch, maybe the ring gear need to be corrctly clocked? Where did you buy it, maybe they can help?

quattrorunner 08-14-2015 11:22 PM

I can't remember. Probably pelican. I remember seeing something like a low profile ring gear somewhere but I think that would make it worse. I think the gear needs a hole where the arm shaft resides. I guess I need to research.
The fact I did a change to short bell housing got my simple mind basackwards and now I need to figure out where I am. I didn't want to buy a whole new kit. They're aspensive.

Here is what I havehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1439658270.jpg
Here is what I need I think.

I think I'll drill some holes.

$hit man, I wish I knew you needed a PP and ring gear. I have an AL one with good ring gear and AL spacer I would have sold you cheap.

quattrorunner 08-15-2015 09:52 AM

You have a short pressure plate? Aluminum? dang

no, 930 PP and ring gear. Light weight, but I can't use with G50 swap

quattrorunner 08-15-2015 11:21 AM

I'm using a shirt bell 930 transmission.

gumba 08-15-2015 11:34 AM

Not sure if this helps. This is the ring gear on a Sachs sport clutch that's bolted to the 3.3 being mated to a '86 915. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1439667223.jpg

I wonder if there is a difference in the size.

Whats the height of your PP, I can measure mine tomorrow

Brendan, I'm at work now, I'll do that tonight.
The difference is large. The regular 930 is about 1.1" longer. Some guy's are buying the adapter/spacer and using the short PP cause it's lighter weight.

I am pretty sure my car had the short PP and ring gear spacer. Let me know and I will dig it out tomorrow am and measure

Wut kind of shirt - polo, dress, t-shirt, sleeveless half shirt (like Paul wears)?!?!

quattrorunner 08-15-2015 02:56 PM

Where have you been?

quattrorunner 08-15-2015 07:33 PM

76-77 pressure plate is exactly 1" shorter from the mating surface of the flywheel to the mating surface of the ring gear than the 78-88 pressure plate.

dap930 08-16-2015 12:36 PM

Here's a picture of my '77 clutch pressure plate/ring gear.

Last night I drilled out the reliefs for the pressure plate actuation and all is well there.
My 930 gearbox had been shortened prior to me getting it but never installed. I know this to be true because of the fact the relief on the side of the bell house for the oil cooler was not done. I never knew it was there but last night I couldn't get it to seat against the engine all the way till I saw that the side of the trans was contacting the oil cooler. Looked at the long 930 I have and sure enough, the bell housing has a relief three for clearance. Learning something new everyday. Looks like I have a fresh rebuilt transmission that's never been run so that's nice. I have looked at the syncros and the did look new.

Fret not Brandon, I have been here stalking you as always; keeping a watchful eye on yer grammatical constructs and word choices and looking for anything I can find that needs to be twisted into something nasty. :)

PS - cool you are getting the GEARBOX situation sorted out!
