What Year Switched to Plastic Airbox?

Does anyone know what model year 930 Porsche made the switch from the metal airbox setup to the plastic airbox? What stock airbox do you all have pre-1983 and what model year is your car?

I believe the switch happened in 1976. Not completely sure though. Pretty sure all the 3.3 liters have metal air boxes. My 81 came with metal.

I believe the -1975, 76 930 had plastic air boxes. The rest of the production 1977-89 had metal air boxes

Hope this helps!

Here is a thread I contributed to a while back. Lots of pictures of plastic ones and the first metal one from 77.

Early turbo 3.0 1977 specific airbox

If anyone comes across a legit / compete 75 intake, please let me know. I have a partial 75 for my 75 and I have a complete 76 airbox. Both the 75 and 76 are one -year only boxes so hard to find.

I do have a guy that has a 75 and wants to trade for my 76, but he isn't super responsive or moving fast to close the deal. Hopefully it happens but keep an eye out for a 75.

Thanks,
Jeff

All the 3.3 air boxes from 78-89 are pretty much the same except for the stickers, breather hoses, and the breather hose support bracket style on the backside and are interchangeable. If the breather hose attached to the airbox in your picture is the original one that came with it it would be a 1981 or later car that uses the oil separator that is used on 81-89 930’s.

Earlier cars the breather hose was a single hose that went from the air box directly to the upper vent on the oil tank as opposed to the multi connection hose in your pic that also hooks up to the oil separator on 81-89 cars.
