Correct Leather Dash for 89 930?

Does this look like a factory original leather covered dash for an 89 930? I'm not so sure about that thin piping.

The thin piping is a factory design. I had that same leatherwork on my 80 Weissach and 86 turbo.

Porsche offered "full leather" interiors as standard equipment for the return of the Turbo in the US market back in 1986. From 87-89 most of the belt-line on the Turbos (Carreras for that matter) which includes the dash/window sills/rear deck were vinyl, unless specially ordered. I think Porsche refrained from putting full leather as the dashes tended to warp under high heat. Most of the 87-89 930s I've seen have vinyl dashes and some '86s too. This excludes earlier turbos which were exclusively equipped with leather dashes. I think the story about the final 930 (black '89 Cab) started with the owner asking for a leather dash in which Porsche said we'll build you what you want.

I have a 1981 Canadian 930 with full leather options and it has the leather dash just like in the picture. I'm not this is applicable to your year though.

My 1989 930 has a burgundy leather dashboard which resembles your photograph. I will reply with a daylight photograph. It is a pity that your stitching appears to be unraveling in the photograph. Having spent many years in the Middle East with their inherent high vehicle interior temperatures, I have found that it was the vinyl dashes that split and suffered the worst.

For those of you with the full leather package can you take a picture of your door cards, center console with knee tray and your rear side panels for me please?

I am also trying to figure out how much of my car is factory and how much is aftermarket?

It seems like it all is factory but I'm skeptical

I recently redid my dash on my 81 930. The original definitely had the piping. I told the upholstery shop to keep the same design (with piping) just make it red/black instead of black. To my disappointment they did it without the piping. When I argued the guy said the factory car does NOT come with the piping. So at the time I thought maybe he was right and the previous owner had installed a non-factory dash. Afterwards I realized that the shop guy had written 1991 Turbo on the receipt (instead of 1981). From this I'm guessing the 964/965s probably don't have the piping but the 80s models do, and he just looked up the wrong spec.

I'm getting ready to redo my front seats and possibly the (warped) dash. Do I have to have the front glass removed to get the dash out? If the glass needs to be out to get to the dash - is it a difficult job?

There are varying theories on glass removal. The 86+ cars can be done with the glass in. Earlier cars require the glass to be removed. However, on my 79 turbo, my upholstery guy redid the dash with the glass in place. This was before I bought the car, so I had no idea how it was done.

If you do pull the dash, get the factory seal as the aftermarket ones do not sit right.
