My 1977 930 on Barrett-Jackson

Lot number 350.1. It should be interesting to see where it lands! Kind of an exciting end, for me, to a great car!

Been watching. Wondered if it would make it to the afternoon broadcast. Nope ...

Maybe it will show tonight on the taped broadcast?

How much you hoping to get?

If that was $44K plus 10% sales commission I know where I'll be selling my 930s when the time comes that I can't drive them anymore. I thought the 930 market was junk along with the other stuff. Seems that price is higher for a comparable car than a year ago???

I was watching tonight…saw that 69 Camero RS/SS go for half a mill
The guy that bought it appeared to be sloshing his drink on cohorts.

Dam what’s wrong with this country, my 930 is easily worth half/mill.
OK, lets say half of a half mill, but no less

Not too shabby Hayabusa!

It might air again. I thought the coverage was terrible. It was lot number 350.1 They broke to show some old POS car that was in a movie,, then came back to the auction in progress in time to see the turbo being rolled off at the strike of the gavel.

I have more than enough pictures and vid clips to satisfy for years to come.

Thanks for everyone's comments! I do appreciate them.

It's funny how you fight to ignore your feelings, but when it finally hits you,, it never feels good.

Good bye old friend!

Chris, I was set up to bid on the car via phone bid. As you know, you and I talked several times about the car, and I then I talked to the folks who had it doing engine work/prep it for BJ. They never provided me all the information I requested. Early last week I attemted to at least get pictures of the final product prior to it being loaded on the truck. Thye had none. I then talked to the person who went to BJ with the cars, and talking to him he did't really know anything about it. He tried to go thru the work they actually performed, but couldn't read some of the writing on the repair ticket. I then tried to call him back the next day to ask a few more questions (leaving a voice mail on his cell) but never received a call back. I then said on, I'll see if it goes on the block during the live video feed Thursday, listening to what the speed guys were saying about it and bidding accordingly. Well as you know it turned out that it didn't go across during the live feed. I then called BJ and told them I was no longer interested in bidding, and they actually refunded my $100 registration fee (I wasn't expecting that but very pleased.) The car hammered at $40 and with the 10% BP put it at $44. Prior to the auction I was told the folks that had it would sell it to me for $36. I was expecting I could get it for less at the acution...but I was wrong, but at the end of the day I at least held on my philosophy that I will not but a car without being able to put my hands on it first. I guess it's my anal rententive engineer in me.

Anyway I am now thinking about driving up to Herhsey in a couple weekends for the Porsche swap meet. Maybe there will be a car or 2 I can look at.

Chris,
Congrats on your sale and my sympathies for your loss.

The Porsche's seemed to do well yesterday. Chris's Carrera Turbo sold very well, not to mention the 3.2 Carrera Slantnose clone that sold for $34K and the horrible colored purple '91 Turbo that was eBay forever sold for $58K.
It seems the increased demand for pony cars is spilling over into the sports car market.

Craig Jackson cut his teeth on turbo Porsches even though he is currently known for Muscle cars he is probably still fond of them. As someone who will be selling, more than buying, 930s in the years to come, I am encouraged to see Porsche ( especially 930 ) getting some well deserved attention. That crowd who are into paying mega dollars for others may discover the 930 driving/ ownership experience. After all I must admit I have been there and done that so it is possible, albiet my tastes changed over 30 years ago.

I will never understand this country's love affair for mass production cars that are a million years old, restored to new, and then never drivin again.... oh yea and for a million dollars. I wish the Porsche's went for more money yesterday, lord knows they were supperior automobiles to 95% of what showed up. I did like a few of the shark Corvettes though, reasonably priced at around $40-50k- but beyond that is just rediculous for cars that I could replicate (minus the little matching numbers...) for 40-50k.

There was a slant nose I think 87 with G50 that sold righ behind it for something like 30k. Drought is was a factory but it looked great under the lights.

It is a shame BJ dose not provide better description of there cars. No one would even give a car with one of there short descriptions and limited pics a second look of it was on Ebay.

With the G50 5spd seems like a decent price even though it is an aftermarket slant nose. Who knows maybe even one of Craig Jacksons SN package conversions come back for sale from close by Nevada.

Engine displacement is stated as a 3.2 litre...so it's a standard Carrera with a slant conversion. Seems the guy got good money for a non-turbo slant conversion.......unless it's a turbo'd 3.2 w/EFI... big "if".

I always wish for evidence of our cars with big mods brining in decent money. I almost wish I never moded my car now. But I guess it goes equally for detroit iron as the modded domestics dont go for that much with mods unless they are period correct, and even then dont come close to origonal.

Charles, I am really sorry that you were not the one to buy 'Turbo C'. Funny,, no one else will know that name,, only a few here locally that knew the car. Anyway, I am sorry that DBrewski didn't communicate with you better. That bit of customer service doesn't please me.

I wish you luck in your search for your car. Please post up and PM me the link as I might miss it when you get it. I am sure that with your attention to detail it will be a nice car! It was great talking to you on the phone.

Thank you, Dave, for the kind words. Don't worry, the proverbial Porsche hook is embedded in my cheek rather well. I think that once one gets to know how much soul the Porsche has,, you couldn't turn away if you thought you could! It will most likely be a shorter term than longer on that brings one back in to my life. Timing is everything.
