New K27 Based Turbo

I have currently a K27 Hybrid Turbo (original turbine wheel with 61mm holset compressor) from Brian.
It`s absolute nice for freeway and track.

For normal street use is it a little bit laggy.

I have ordered a K27 based new KKK (journal bearing) with an other turbine wheel (same dimension but other geometry (flater) for better response.
Compressor wheel is a billet 57mm 7 blade).

Here some Pictures frome the new one:

Cool, did you get the new compressor wheel from Brian?

JFairman 12-21-2015 05:48 PM

The exhaust turbine wheel looks like the blade at 8 o clock with the paint stripe that was put there during the balancing process is longer than the others.

Was the turbine wheel clipped?

Yes look like the blade is longer, but it is not.

The turbine wheel ist not clipped, it has additional to the other geometry a wheel Cutback.

Having the exhaust turbine wheel blades clipped a little shorter is an old way to lower back pressure before the turbo for better top end performance. Bob at Durabilt turbo told me about that some years ago but I've never seen pictures of one thats had that done.
It looks like a Garret exhaust turbine wheel in the 3K housing.
Thanks for the information.

That is interesting, thanks!

I really don`t know about the turbine wheel (brand) i check the garrett page, only the GT 20 Serie has 12 blades but there are to small.

The easiest way is to ask ETG about the brand.

Some Bad Update

Back to supplier / error causes wrong bearing housing (deja vu)

Turbo back with new bearing housing...second attempt...

Again a wrong bearing housing......
What i really not understand is the bad controlling from the suppliers.

Turbo is back to supplier...money is back...now i look for a Garrett!

Hi Thomas
Bad story, I feel your anger. Only left to look forward. Can't wait what turbo you choose and how it performs.

JFairman 06-09-2016 05:50 PM

Garret GSX 61 is another good option.
They said you can think of it as an upgraded Blowzilla.

Hi Jim

I see the GSX 61 also as a good option...for that price you become alot of turbo!

JFairman 06-11-2016 07:04 AM

They are built from a Garret TO4Z.
You can order them with a cast or billet compressor wheel and with journal or ball bearings.
A couple years ago they ranged from around $850 to $1200 depending on the bearings and compressor wheel used.
I bought mine from the manufacturer: Turbos Direct in Arizona with ball bearings and the billet wheel. It was around $400 less than a new GT35R back then. It works very well and never leaks or smokes.

This is why Bob at Durabilt is the best.
