930 drip tank, how much oil during change?
Hey guys,
I'm changing the oil and wondering how oil should be left in the aftermarket turbo drip tank. I only got an ounce or so to drain out. The tank is new stainless unit (unvented) that I added with headers. I take it the scavenger pump is working fine. Any comments appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

That's the typical amount.
The drip tank only collects oil that is in the turbo bearing cartridge and oil pipe/hose between the low pressure sending unit banjo bolt and turbocharger after shutdown - not much oil sitting in those once the engine stops spinning, but having a drip tank gives it somewhere to go so that it doesn't collect in the super heated bearing cartridge and coke-up. |

Thanks for the input.
The factory vented tank I had on the car before appeared to have more oil drop out when doing an oil change. |

Interesting. I've had an unvented tank on for so long that I don't remember how much oil came out of the factory tank (butt I don't usually drain the current tank during oil changes - so much old oil stays in the system anyway that the little bit in the tank is not a concern). Maybe the factory vented tank lets the oil drip more quickly? Don't see how it would considering the oiling system is always open to atmosphere anyway, but interesting none the less. Plus the factory turbo tank is much bigger than a typical turbo drain tank so it would hold more oil.
