Picking up recovered seats today.
Well, today is the day that I make my way across the state to pick up my recovered and foam reinforced sport seats from Mr. Robert Budd at Classic 9 Leather Shop.
Bob tells me that for original 1984 sport seats that they held out great and came out spectacularly. When I get them back to Kalamazoo i'll shoot a few shots, and if possible shot some pics of the car in it's final stages of paint restoration. I have become a serious believer in restoration before respray. What started out as a cloudy rough paint surface is now a smooth, soft mile deep black buttery to the touch black not seen since leaving the line in Stuttgart. At the same time my guy has masterfully filled and blended paint chips to the point that I can't even find where they once were. This coming from a guy that spent a good deal of his life stamping "Class A" sheet metal for the Big 3! A true artist who takes serious pride in his craft. Anyway, pics to follow soon! |

Since you mentioned it, what was the process used on the paint, was this a diy process of elbow grease a and a good cut and polish? And of course, pics of the old girl...

Pics of the recovered sport seats and paint...
The seats came out better then I thought they would. I am totally satisfied with Robert Budd at Classic 9 Leather Shop; a great guy who's eye for detail, fit and finish put a huge grin on my face. The funniest thing about it all is how he described us "Air cooled" guys. His cliche story goes like this: "You 911/930 guys are so funny, you all say the same thing - "Hey man, I just dropped $30k+ into my engine - could you give me a deal on the interior?" It was too funny, and well - the reason it's a cliche is because he hears it all the time. The pictures of the seats and "paint resurrection in process" are not great, but I hope you get the point. When the wax is on, the tape off, and sun shinning - I'll be sure to add a few pics of quality to 930POTD thread.

Hate being negative but those seats do not look all that great to me. Uneven stitching, various wrinkles, the bolsters look asymmetric... maybe they will get better with time + a few hot days in the sun. I would not have accepted the work personally, just want you to know that is not on par with the quality of work I have seen from other high-end shops.
