Spent the morning with the 930 - DIY Catch-Can & New AFR Gauge Location
Dug up the old girl and cleaned off the winter storage spider webs. Had a few things to catch-up on with the car and my schedule finally allowed for it!
I, like many others here, ditched the factory air box for the lower profile K&N Cone Filter and as a result had a breather hose leaking oil into the engine bay. I don't like the look of hose breather filters (auto parts store) so, being in NASCAR country, I went down the street to Roush Yates Performance shop. This place is awesome, anything they take off of a Roush NASCAR that doesn't get re-used (none of it does) ends up here for sale. Scored the catch-can and new fittings (fittings were three times as much as the can!). Made a really simple bracket to mount it in a clean un-used factory spot then put it all together and on the car - I gotta say I'm pretty pleased. It's not the prettiest thing but a couple coats of high temp satin black should help. ![]() ![]() ![]() If anyone is interested, I'm happy to forward the exact part #s I used so you can duplicate my order. All together (without the mounting bracket I made and misc hardware) it was around $85 I think. The large 90* fitting on top fits the factory breather hose like a glove! Second on my list was a new wideband AFR gauge. After two consecutive AEM's crapping out on me (with ZERO support from AEM might I add) I decided to go with the Innovate MTX Unit. Initial impression is that it is overall a much nicer unit then the AEM UEGO. Connectors are nicer, wiring is much more solid, and it just seems like an overall nicer package. It also includes a serial cable which you can plug into the back of the gauge then connect to a computer for data-logging using their free software - a cool bonus. I am not a fan of extra gauges in general (except for my NHS boost gauge in the clock location - love it!) so I wanted to mount the gauge somewhere inconspicuous and out of the way. Wide bands tend to look like a christmas tree at night, not something I want to live with on a regular basis. Ultimately I decided my glove box would be a good spot as it can be closed and clearly viewed by a passenger if I need WOT data. I pulled out the glovebox insert and went to town. My car has always had a small on/off switch in the glovebox which I assume was for the non-functioning light? Can anyone confirm? Anyhow I re-purposed it for the wideband so it can be switched on/off. ![]() ![]() It's not in my direct line-of-sight when driving but a quick glance here and there is easy enough. First drive with it installed I felt like I could keep an eye on it and the road safely. AFRs look pretty good given the temperature; ~13.6 idle, ~14.7 cruise, ~14.0 decel and big dips into the 11's/low 12's under boost! Part of the wideband install was re-installing my Hooligan exhaust. I temporarily tried out an Outlaw pipe and ultimately it was just this much >< too loud. I love the spool-up sound you get with the Hooligan and unfortunately it was overpowered by sheer exhaust noise with the Outlaw. So the Hooligan is back to stay! ![]() Next on the list is a custom wastegate dump pipe, I'll be sure to post pics when it's finished! Thanks for reading - what have you done to your 930 lately? |

Looks great Patrick! I'm going to be installing the exact same AFR wide and gauge soon as well. I can't wait to get that done. Also I'm glad you decided to stay hooligan

And as far as the exhaust... don't get me wrong, the outlaw is BADASS. I've had the hooligan for almost 4 years and I think I'm just attached to the note ![]() |

Hey Patrick, is that K&N mounted right on the air /throttle valve opening on the CIS fuel head? Do you have any pics of that? I'd love to free up some space in my engine compartment.

How do you hold the filter on? poke a couple holes in the top for the original bolts?

It comes with a proper sized hose clamp - you remove the large diameter, o'ring holder from the air metering throat ( the seal for the original airbox - it just lifts right out) and then there is a flat surface to clamp against,
