Drivers seat 'jerks' rhythmically every 15 seconds...
A friend who shall remain nameless, reversed the charge cables to jump my 85 Carrera. Large spark, removed immediately, couldn't believe I just saw that! Idiot! Anyway, only effect was that one of the drivers seat motors (I think) jerks slightly every 15 seconds with an audible click. Is this damage to the motor itself? A relay switch shorted? I know the fuses are all intact, and the seat adjusts fine in all directions and angles. Thoughts?

Fair warning, uncontested layups will not go unnoticed.

Paul's driver's seat jerks rhythmically every few seconds, butt that is due to the large, cylindrical vibrating apparatus that he has installed in the seat-base.
![]() I hear that his design plans for said device have been requested by many on this forum (the two guys that posted above, for example) - don't know the truf behind (literally) that, though! ![]() |

You have all been very helpful! This is not a joke. C'mon. Doesn't anyone have any serious opinions beyond what an eighth grader might burp out?!

The seat motor has a wire harness plug that connects it to the wire loom under the seat, so I would suggest that you unplug that run the car for a little bit, then re-attach it, and perhaps the motor will then function normally from that point. Also check to see if the wire ends show any signs of overheating and hit them with some sand paper. PS - my commentary is more of the 8th grader fart variety - a burp is much too tame! Kenik, with what substance to you plan to baptize Paul's car?!?! ![]() |

I Wonder

Unless it was operating it seems unlikely that the reverse polarity would cause this. Your more likely to have blown diodes in your alternater. You may have arched on the armature so when the armature turns in the motor it has bad contacts. You might try removing motor and test with a battery to see if it runs smoothly. Sometimes when trouble shooting things will happen that have nothing to do with an occurance but arise out of coincidence. Start with the motor. Goodluvk Thanks Rob.

Good suggestions/thoughts, and along those lines, OP - put a voltmeter on the battery and check to see if voltage spikes above 14.5 volts accompany the seat jerks. That would indicate alternator and/or voltage regulator damage. Also take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested to see if any of the cells were damaged by the reverse polarity incident. |

You might also want to try posting this in the 911 technical forum if you haven't already. It gets more traffic and fewer d*ck jokes. The problem is not specific to the model cars covered here, so there's a good chance someone over there has had similar issues.
