Tire question...
Good morning,
I have the original 16" Fuchs wheels on my 1984 930 (911 Turbo - whatever) and I am looking for guidance as to what the best street tire (and occasional DE ;) is for these wheels. I live in Michigan and plan on driving at least 8500-10,000 miles this season. I don't mind tire "noise", love gooey grip, but want to get a full season out of them. Thoughts? |
I am very happy with TOYO Proxys R888.

All tires are a tradeoff. Will you be driving the car regularly at temps below 40F? If so you probably want A/S tires. Conti DWS are a good choice.
If never below 40F, look at RE-11, RE71r, Direzza Star Spec, AD-08, and RS-3s. All are excellent summer tires that are very DE capable. Not all will be available in your exact sizes and they hate cold weather. Even storing them in temps below 20F can seriously damage them. |
Another (stupid) question...
What if I got the Toyo Proxies and it is below 40 at times? Is it bad for the life of the tire, or just not a good gripping tire at those sub 40 temps? |
Just did the tire-shopping thing very recently but, having 15" wheels on my 76 930, was VERY limited in choices to choose from. After HOURS of Internet searches and reading I chose the TOYO Proxys R888 and just could not be happier in the few miles I've put on them so far and I've not even experimented with tire pressures, front to back, etc, to tweak and fine-tune the response. They stick to the road like it's flypaper.
There are some weather related cautions to be aware of ... standing water, extreme cold, etc ... all of which is covered in detail in various forums and tire vendor sites. With mine being strictly a fair weather car there were no caveats I couldn't easily live with. |

Does anyone have any experience with these?
Continental*ExtremeContact DWS 06 I still have a few thousand miles to go, but it's always good to plan ahead... Thanks again everyone! |

Here is a link, if I still had my 16s I would run these Pilot Sports from Coker.
