3DLZ thread repair-help needed
So- murphy strkes again.
When fitting my rebuilt turbo charger, the rebuilders put the compressor outlet pointing in the wrong direction. After loosening the bolts and rotating the housing, when carefully tightning the bolts - that sickening feeling when the magnesium threads gave out, with bolts turning freely. I'm thinking of inserting M6 timeserts or helicoils. Which is better? There is a significant cost difference. Any guidance on fixing this? |

Helicoil is just fine.
You don't have to torque much at all, there's virtually no load on the bolts. |

Yeah, those 6mm bolts just get snugged good. A little silicone grease or oil on the big o-ring under the 3K compressor covers is good too.
