Standard headers

Gents,
My standard headers are getting a bit ropey on my 1988 turbo. Silly me wants to keep them standard but Turbo headers are hard to find. Will 3.2 headers bolt onto a 3.3 engine? So many different P/N's out there but there are a lot of 3.2 headers for sale in the UK.
Could someone advise the difference between 3.2 and 3.3 Turbo headers.

Thanks in advance

TIM

Sure the 3.2 NA headers will bolt on but you have to add the plumbing for the turbo and the waste gate. It's probably been done.

On 2nd thought, the 3.2 and 3.3 port sizes are different. Are you talking OEM or aftermarket headers?

I am looking at OEM headers. So hopefully the J pipe will match up to the headers as normal.
Understand port sizes are larger on the 3.2 so question is will the header fit onto the head studs and seal.

Thanks
TIM

Stud spacing is the same. If the 3.2 headers have the lip that fit into the port grind it off.

They will bolt up but the exhaust ports are bigger on 3.2 heads.

Thank you for the responses guys. Out of interest then, the header tubes must be larger which should in turn should be of benefit over the OEM turbo headers.

Cheers

may want to check to see if 993 headers will fit if you flip one side of the flanges, like you would on a 3.2. Then just add the plumbing for the turbo and wastegate. I think the 993 headers are supposed to be better. They worked great on my old 3.2...

3.2 exhaust

Hi,I used a lot of these on 930 cars. They are about 6mm larger I.D.and pick the boost up sooner & they look stock.J-Pipe bolts right up.Cheap performance upgrade for a change.Fred

Hmm. I have a set NOS headers, J pipe and crossover also a used set ( same) sitting for decades. Also 2 lo miles 86-89 mufflers with good cats in case emissions are important. One muffler/cat with only 1K miles. My 86-89 930s are way beyond ever using them and emissions are not an issue with me.

Thanks Fred, I take it you are referring to the 3.2 headers rather than the 993's

3.2

Yes,the 3.2.I would machine the exhaust port so the header would fit inside while the heads were off as this makes a bulletproof exhaust manifold gasket and reduces heat soak back to the aluminum head which aids in lower temperature.Win win & it looks stock.Never did a dyno with just the change to 3.2 header as other changes were being done at the same time while it was apart.Fred
