930 trailing arm- tool to confirm spec

My 1987 930 is complete and looks terrific after a long repair/restoration process. The final item is alignment of the driver's rear wheel. The shop doing the work is well known and trusted. The tech cannot get the driver's rear camber in alignment. We suspect that the trailing arm may have been compromised when I hit the tire wall a few years ago. The car has received a cellette alignment by Porsche specialist and a glass out bare metal reapray.

I remember seeing recently a post including a special Porsche tool which can be used to determining be if a trailing are is in spec. Does this exist and where could I rent one before dropping mucho $ on new trailing arm and associated labor.

Thanks everyone!

Maybe this one: Google P914086 and it will show up in a competitor catalog...

If you read the description of the tool, it supports the trailing arm to allow small changes in ride height.
OldSpool, if the body shop put your can on a Cellette, they should have disassembled your rear suspension and put the suspension pick-up points into the locators on the chassis.
That is the point of frame straightening so we can safely eliminate the chassis as the source of the error.
However, that doesn't eliminate the possibility of suspension component damage.
Have your shop disassemble that side of the suspension and check the trailing arm in the area circled for damage and general flatness. Camber and toe adjusters jack on that surface and any damage will be seen in the inability to get the car aligned to spec.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1481738413.gif

Nut- I think we are thinking the same. The frame should be withinin spec and I have to go with that assumption for the time being for my own sanity.

So, I'm thinking the trailing arm is tweaked. My thought was to isolate to the trailing arm by confirming it out of spec with this tool that I remember seeing.

JJ- thanks for the link but I think that tool serves to make adjustments and not measure.

The tool I am thinking of is like a jig that is placed on the trailing arm to make sure it's good.

I did use "maybe"...

The Tools you are looking for are P 295 and P 295b

Trailing Arm Alignment Fixture. Under the order number 000 721 295 00 & 000 721 295 20 its NLA.

The last one for sale was back in 2004: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/145674-sale-porsche-factory-suspension-tools.html#post1138220

You should be able to "borrow" one from an independent shop.

Ok, then it isn't legally binding :D

I thought that the 930 trailing arm was different from the garden-variety 911.
Also, I'm thinking that the flat vertical portion of the trailing arm where the toe and camber cams act upon the arm to get it into position is damaged (see my diagram). In that case, assuming the gauge fits, it may or may not indicate any damage.

Put a straightedge vertically and horizontally on this.

nothing to add Will but - GREAT to have you (almost) back... gdamn that's been forever

must feel GOOD

good luck getting that camber sorted... hope it's not the banana arm (different than Rawknees' banana hammock... which is more like a stringbean hammock, rather)...

Thanks Paul. Yeah…a long time indeed. My gut tells me it's the banana arm which is mucho bucks. I have requested the camber spec to see if I can live with premature tire wear.

I'm told the car is safe and drives without any appreciation for the extra camber. If it's safe and has a slightly out of spec alignment, I could probably live with that.

I looks really good though!
