Thought I'd post this here first. I don't really know what it is worth, and really a novelty/restorers item. I'll start with $700 of best. thanks Philip

I was wondering what makes that one expensive/special too. It doesn't look anything like this one that is.

The top one is an off the shelf modern air pressure regulator, the bottom is also a pressure regulator but it is actually what Porsche/Audi used.

These are sort of my hobby.

What does the small allen screw with the locking nut do? Is this to lock the boost in at one setting?

I believe it is used to adjust the amount of friction, or as you describe one could lock the shaft from turning.

Pilfered pics, No prob. I see mine ( the black one ) in two of those photos. It was installed in my 77 930 which was period modded when almost new, and will always remain that way if I have any say.. Here is a photo of the accompanying Porsche christmas tree LED boost gauge ( the boost knob is just visible peeking out. LEDs were also used on 917, 934 and early 935s by the factory.

Here's a Taylor air pressure regulator that David Cole gave me. He bought two of them on ebay and he installed one of them in his car and he wanted me to have the other one.
It looks sort of similar to the one Porsche used but I've never installed it. If it had a threaded collar and nut for mounting it I would have.

So the RUF regulator and the 935 regulator have to be based on some type of commercial pressure regulator. Who is or was that company? Probably a compensated piloted precision regulator like the Siemens model 43 with a custom machined stem.

That's my guess. I troll ebay every once and awhile for something similar but havent found a good match.

For example -

exactly

note however, there is no reference scale - stand a dude next to ^that^ and it's readily apparent this is the size of a toddler's pinky finger
