Time to fire this thing up...

Winter project EFI conversion. SDS EM-5. I am going to take it for a spin on the test stand and see if I can get it running.

Side note: why can't I get the photo upright? I tried uploading it three different ways.

Fuel rails were sourced from a fellow Pelican, who had them fabbed for his SC, but went a different route. I just had to build the mount brackets. No leaks.

I got the MAGNET SEEN message. This makes my day.

I have found if I take the pictures with the phone vertical they do that. I always hold the phone horizontal now and no issues. Something with the forum wants to post all the pictures short and wide.

The reason is that the forums server software does not correctly read all of the picture file code from your cell phone so the jpeg corner location data is not read and displayed correctly on a windows computer.
I don't have a MAC computer so I don't know if they do the same thing and display the same way.

You can save the picture file, rotate it 90 degrees, and repost it like this.

Thanks JFairman. I just bought a used iPhone 5s (I buy cheap phones for when I drop them). I did not seem to have this issue with my Androids, but my computers are still Windows. I will try your suggestions.

Engine started. Magnet timing is set. Oil is pouring into the muffler I turned the oil flow rate down a bit (I have a valve in the feed line). I have always had an oil issue with this Borg Warner turbo. I will check the seals before I put it in the car. Also, engine runs like crap. I suspect I have some settings to tweak.

FrankenPorsches rule!
3.0 SC, JE Pistons, custom turbo 8.5:1 domed. DR DC-15 cams. SDS EF-5 EFI system. Cut up SC airbox. Accel 44# injectors. Borg Warner T0-4B mutant turbo (I can't really identify what it really is, but it spools quickly). Stock Turbo exhaust system (I ditched the headers so I could have some heat)

At the moment, I just tested it again. I am thinking it is running rich. I need to read the manual to see what is going on.

I got rid of the CIS because I wanted to take out the finicky-ness.

I love them also, my first was 2.0L with pressurized Webers back in 1980. Hear you on the CIS, mine is the ultra rare 6 months only '73.5T.

What about your spark?

Oil cooling?

Intercooling?

Boost level?

You you have any instrumentation? CHT, EGT, AFR

Thanx

What about your spark?- Was MSD 6AL with J&S SafeGuard and MSD Boost Timing Master. Now All included in the SDS EM-5 package.

Oil cooling?-Engine oil cooler, remote front fender with a 5" SPAL fan and thermostatic controller set to 180F. Removed the front oil cooler (only necessary on August days at the track). Also removed the rear fender cooler (used to cool the turbo discharge from the oil pump prior to return to the sump)

Intercooling?- Water injection. Uses the windshield washer tank. Fully adjustable to inject at whatever pressure I want-usually at around 3 PSI.

Boost level?- 5.7 PSI. Prior dyno tests with the old setup was around 300 RWHP at 6 PSI. I guess you know an SC is a handful with 300 HP.

You you have any instrumentation? CHT, EGT, AFR - CHT on each side, no EGT, AEM AFR gauge which I will be able to data log to. Also inlet air temperature at the air filter, airbox temperature to determine the effectiveness of the water injection. Water injection LED when injecting.

Yes, I do. In 84 I built an IROC look on a '72 base car with 7:31 R/P 915. Swapped in a '80 3.0L SC (9.3:1c.r.) then added twin Garrett T-25 turbos with air/water intercooler. Ran 6-7#, with light weight body and "low gearing" it had startling acceleration.

Well, engine is running a bit rough. The fuel calcs in the hardware appear to be OK. I will have to run it some more tomorrow and see if I can't get it tuned better. I need to rig up an exhaust hose. It was a bit chilly today having to open the garage doors with it being 25F and the wind at 10 knots. I have to read the manual some more. When in doubt, read the instructions!
