When the picture file size is too large, it appears to load but then doesn't show.

I really like this free program for making small compressed jpeg copies of larger picture files.
It has sharpening, contrast, and a few other basic slider adjustments and it can do one at a time or batches of selected files in one go.

If using it in Windows 10 and it seems slow right click on the shortcut icon and select troubleshoot compatibility and then run it in Windows 7 or XP mode. It may work faster that way and some other programs do too.
Easy Thumbnails | Fookes Software

Well I got the program to make a thumbnail but I cannot get it any bigger. I've requested smaller pictures from RWB.

If you mean the Easy Thumbnails program, in the drop down "files of type" menu i select "all images"

In settings, type in the max width and max height pixel dimensions you want your output picture file to have. You can go bigger or smaller and the original file is untouched and remains the same. You're making a copy of the original at whatever size you want. If you go bigger the program uses interpolation to make more new pixels from the original pixels.

In the resize menu I select "shrink to fit" because I use this program to make smaller picture file copies.

In the algorithm drop down menu I select "lanczos3" because it gives you the highest quality pictures and it's r e a l l y good.

In the prefix/suffix menu I use small_
The programs default is tn_
Then the new small jpeg copies have the tn_ before the original file name.
You can name it what ever you want.

In the new name menu I select "Auto detect"

In jpeg quality I usually use something between 70 to 95. It all depends what size I want the new jpeg copies to be. My camera is a Nikon D810 and it's 36 megapixels so the original files are huge.

I leave brightness and contrast at 0 so no changes are made. I use Photoshop CS6 for those adjustments.

In the sharpness menu I select 1. If you use 0 there is a little softness in the jpeg copies that I don't like and if you go over 1 then it gets halo's and looks nasty. If more sharpening is needed the quality always goes down but Photoshops "smart sharpen" works a lot better.

Like most image adjustment programs it takes using it a little while to get used to it.

I know zero about pictures and sizing. No idea what 1150x1000 even means (and I really don't care). I'll play with it later and see if I can figure out what size fits Pelican's restrictions.

Yes we've done several systems for RWB, most M&K 911. Very few of those cars are turbocharged. This one focused on the quickest spool and highest torque.

First you say you don't care and then you say you'll play with it later... whatever.

Yes I appreciate the help and will do as you suggest later on when I get a break. It's true I really don't care what a pixel is, just as some wouldn't care what a welding rod is. We all have our own interests.

FWIW, pixels are the little dots of colored light you see on your monitor. You can see them with you're naked eye on a 1k or lower resolution monitor and you can see them better with a magnifying glass. You really need a magnifying glass or lupe to see them on high res 2k and 4k monitors.

The standard for Full HD is 1920 pixels horizontal and 1080 pixels vertical. That means from the bottom to the top of a full HD screen there are 1080 lines of resolution or 1080 pixels or dots of light going from the top to the bottom of the screen and 1920 lines of resolution or dots of light going from one side of the monitor to the other side.

In the sensor of a digital camera pixels are the microscopic light sensors that turn light into very low voltage electricity.

Hey Jim I followed your detailed instructions (thank you!) but the Pelican viewer still doesn't like it. Is there a specific size I need to input? I left the default 500 width 500 height and selected "shrink to fit".

if you open windows explorer and hold the mouse over the file, it should show you the size.
on your phone click on details to see file size.
right click the file and select properties to see the size.

Yes I did that early on and changed the size in the window to match the ones from my camera, Pelican didn't like it. So far the only one that shows up is the thumbnail. Unfortunately I don't have much time to fiddle with annoying technology crap like that, I've got a dead car that needs fixing. I'll shoot RWB an email and see if they can send smaller pictures. The silver car is wild looking that's for sure! I'd like to drive one of these and see how they feel.
