Rhinorack X Tray, small; mounted using Yakima gutter mounts and cross bars. The rear mounts needed an extension to compensate for the slope of the roof. Overall, I think it sits too high, but those were the lowest mounts we could find. The light bar is custom, powder coated black, attached to the A/C condenser mount and tabs to the underside of the bumper. Rock solid. The bar lights are '60s marchal's 5 1/2" I purchased from Monza, Italy and the basket lights are 3" form greggearhead on eBay, unbranded, but stainless steel. Need a 1282J bulb, yellow with ba21s cap for the 4th light.

Raining today so can't get to the alternator. Oddly, the car started once, but is dead again.
Will get a bike carrier for my road bike so I can actually use it as a sports purpose vehicle.

My friend suggested this: "lose the air conditioning and put a second alternator on the A/C pump stand. That’s what Bjorn Waldegard and the boys did back in the day of the East African Safari."

That's a good start, but you're nowhere near "full mod!"

+ 1 with Rahl. I have that alternator ..it' can handle everything I throw at mine. Always sits at 14v with all accessories on and 14.3 - 14.4 normally.

160 AMP Alternator

Yeah these are the best alternators I know of and they're priced right.

xbmwguy turned me on to these when he found them on ebay and installed one in his car around 3 years ago.
These alternators keep charging excellent when running added on AC condensers with 10" fans and a high power stereo system at the same time during traffic or on the interstate in Florida summers. And at night with high wattage headlights too.

I took some pics of one I bought before installing it in the car I used to have.
The magnesium fan housing has a coat of corrosionx sprayed on it. The marine version in the red can. xbmwdude turned me onto that stuff too. It's the best.

Speaking of alternators, I'm presuming I need to remove everything above the shroud, then the shroud to get to the alternator......no other way to wrastle it out......?

Cool, thanks for the pics and paint suggestions. Indeed, the price is right.

Was reading your cars goodbye thread......bittersweet, I'm sure, heck, maybe even just bitter; but glad you're still posting.

You don't have to remove anything other than a few 10mm nuts around the fan housing, then the top pulls out of the air shroud and you wiggle and lift it up so the locating dowel on the bottom comes up out of it's hole. I don't remember struggling with it.
It's easier if you remove some of the short 10mm bolts around the fan housing area in the fiberglass air shroud so it lifts up around 10mm to give you more wiggle room.

Id rather have frozen kneecaps than be able to see where I'm going.

Getting the fan off the alternator can be a real challenge.
