Car just died...
So, I'm driving along after some spirited driving on the highway - nothing crazy, and I pull off and the car just loses spark. Fuel pump(s) seem to work, but as I try to start the car it just ends up flooding. Then, after the tow truck drops the car at my mechanics shop - it starts - for 5 seconds and then dies again.
I'm hoping for something quick and easy (and perhaps not a part made of unobtainium ![]() Thoughts from the gallery as to what the culprit may be? Thanks everyone. |

out of gas
it should run on one fuel pump but you can test. remove connector on top rear of AFM. remove BOTH FP relays turn key on. put one relay in at a time to hear each pump by itself. if you are sure it is flooding the pumps should be working. you can leave the connector of while troubleshooting to make sure both pumps run all the time. ignition related. check for spark when it will not crank. this could be a bad CD or coil. when my coil went bad it would try to start but it never would quite catch. heat is the killer. most of the time the car will start after it cools down which made me think ignition since it has cooled some since being towed. there is a delayed action relay that keeps the ignition on for about 5 seconds after the key is turned off. this could also be bad. if the pumps do not run it could be several things. fuse of course. give it spin if it is good. first I would ground the wire to the over boost relay next I would bypass the yellow relay in the engine bay 30-87a. then if you jumper the FP relay and they run then it is probably the speed relay under the seat. OH GREAT!!! I see you did not post the year of you r car so some of the above may not apply. nice.....

Sounds like the CD box is getting old. When an old cd box gets hot it can stop working. Some have put ice on the CD box when it stops working to get up and running again.
