3.4 Twin turbo
Hi all I have decide to get rid of the distributor and install COP .. coil on plug...system ... does anyone make a kit for this or does it have to be made up from several suppliers...
|
I believe Turbo Kraft and Clewitt do in the USA?
|
I put a pair of M&W CDI's, a set of twelve COP's and a full set of spark plugs on my twin turbo 930 engine - all sourced from Chris at TurboKraft. I control the CDI's with the output from a Haltech ECU.
The TurboKraft ignition system has performed flawlessly for the past 2 years and solved all of the problems that I previously had with the AEM / COP system. Based on my own experience - Ignition is an area where trying to save money is foolish on these cars. You cannot go wrong following Chris's advice in this area. Richard. |
Hi,
You'll want to run a pair of M&W Pro-16b CDI units. They're made in Australia, simply the best we've ever tested. They'll be triggered directly from the ECU. COP units: we've got some really low profile ones that fine great, easy to get out for plug changes when the engine is in the car. We usually use the RSR-style plug hold downs to keep them in place "just in case" even though we've never had one fall off a lower plug. Plus they look period-correct and cool. 12x COPs + connector kits + spark plugs = $1128 12x RSR plug holders with hardware = $204 More than enough spark to support 800rwhp. |
I can vouch for the M&W CDI unit. Definitely, a top quality piece.

How or better Q... Where, do you mount the two M&W CDI's? |
A couple of different ways -- sometimes on the engine, but usually on the engine compartment wall and covered by the original plastic relay panel cover.:

Very clean installs as usual. I am contemplating an ECU upgrade and go COP's. Very much appreciate the pics and info. I need to drop the engine for a clutch change and it might be the time to do it.
