Motortrend

I was looking through my motor trend magazines and saw the acceleration times of 70-100mph for some nice cars.
ZR1 Corvette - 3.2
Nissan GTR - 3.1
2017 Porsche Turbo S - 2.8
McLauren 570S - 2.6
Audi R8 - 2.5

So i put my vbox in my car and down shifted into 2nd at 55 at rolled into the throttle. Results in picture. Not bad for 40 year old car.

2.48 sec? Wow.

Tippy 11-13-2017 11:42 AM

What's your whp? Weight?

Porsche 935 11-13-2017 12:25 PM

I have no idea about the horsepower but weight is slightly under 2500 lbs. Remember engine is stock compression - efi - but no intercooler.

Tippy 11-13-2017 05:22 PM

Nice run!

quattrorunner 11-13-2017 07:14 PM

What gas? Race 110?

slow&rusty 11-14-2017 03:32 AM

No intercooler and twin turbskies...why?

Porsche 935 11-14-2017 03:40 AM

Pump gas. And always wanted twins like the 935 and found a set cheap back in 1988. Twins allow a huge variety of turbo options.

Do you have egt gauge? What boost you using?

Porsche 935 11-14-2017 06:39 AM

I have egt gauge for each cylinder. I run between 1.15 and 1.5 bar depending on the traction possibilities. This run was 1.4 but only 2/3 throttle and I had to ease on the pedal. Was 80 degrees outside. Think I can run faster with more throttle and better conditions.

quattrorunner 11-14-2017 06:53 AM

Ok so no Intercooler, stock compression, pump gas, 1.4bar!
Do you mind telling us........how? I know stock compression is low but still others have blown up with Intercooler a and less boost. Confused

I generally don't give out much of my combo because some of the people on here tell me you can't run this or do that or those parts are junk. But proof is in the times. I can tell you with the right cams and fuel mixtures you don't have excessive cylinder pressure and heat and I do run water/meth injection as a fail safe.

I feel your pain. Keep on keeping on!

Still pretty amazing. Love it.

Why no intercooler? Looks like you have plenty of room under your tail.

The air temps only go up 40 degrees under boost and cool right back down, so really not needed for street car. Also no restrictions and faster boost time. Lastly, money. I have had this car for 32 years and built it myself. So upgrades are made as I can afford them based on how much performance is yielded to money spent.

Porsche 935 11-15-2017 05:28 AM

Did some research last night. Seems most cars around 600 - 650 hp range are turning 2.5 - 3 seconds depending on their weight with the Mclauren being the lightest and needing slightly less power to accelerate at the same rate. So my engine should be pushing about 650-700 hp based on the times achieved, especially sense I have more throttle to use. Personally, very happy with the results and thanks for everyone's input.

Porsche 935 11-15-2017 05:31 AM

There's a guy on here putting 733 hp to the wheels. Would love to see a vbox acceleration time from that car.

slow&rusty 11-15-2017 05:34 AM

You just answered my question....your meth / water injection is the key, without that your motor would be decorating the fireplace at Christmas time.
