Is it just me?
Am I the only one that is borderline harassed by every guy in a Camry GT, WRX, Audi, BMW or whatever car to race every time you take the Porsche for a drive? The mustang and corvette guys have all left me alone.
I drove the 930 yesterday and on the way there a Camry GT  was trying to egg me into a race; not two miles later a BMW M5 with paper plates. I hope his girlfriend was impressed as he raced off by himself. And on the way home a Audi SUV  and Audi Sedan A5. WTF? Two Audi's. By the third light I was annoyed and let the A5 have it. Sucks to loose to a stock 38year old car. |
It's not just you. I have the same problem. I took mine out for her weekly little 2 mile drive Friday night and some guy in a 4 door sedan kept getting on my A$$ wanting me to get on it. Can't vouch for what it was since it was dark and he was behind me on a country road. Your list is pretty much the same as mine except I'll also add pickup trucks to the list you provided. Maybe it's just a GA thing with the pickups....even 4WDs....go figure?

No one ever messes with me. Guess it's just the city you live in?
|
not you. although not so much lately.
depending on what they are driving I either tell them to go home and get something faster or you have to turn ALL your traction control. it really funny when they are in a geo with a fart can muffler that cost as much as the car. |

Chris Way to break the ice with the first post. Welcome to the Turbo forum. SmileWavy Now lets see some pictures! |
Deez, the main challenges that I get around here are on the highway (where the bulk of my driving is) and by "muscle cars" (Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, etc.) . . . pretty amusing sometimes.

Surprisingly I very rarely get anybody trying to race me. I do get a lot of thumbs up and offers to buy the car though!

Thanks! Now time for the introduction. Her name is Helga. Yes I've been hanging around for a long time and finally signed up in 2015 but never posted until today. Her name is Helga and she's a 1986. I bought this car in 1993 with less than 7000 miles. Now it has ~39000. From 1997-2014 she spent most of her life being a garage queen in a climate controlled garage sometimes not being driven for 2 year stretches. The guy I bought her from had a dial-o-death boost controller and he wanted to keep it so he removed it before the sale and put a 1 bar spring in the stock WG. Unfortunately for me he hooked up the vacuum lines backwards and I had no WG. The bomb finally went off in 2014. Had to do a rebuild so I decided to make a number of upgrades while I was at it. Here's the list: TurboKraft LN IC 964 cams Head port and blend RarlyL8 Headers with Zork Leask AWUR Leask RPM controlled Solenoid CIS Flowtech fuel head mod to max flow. Euro Injectors Twin Bosch 44 FPs TurboSmart eBoost 2 programmable EBC GFB hybrid adjustable BO/diverter valve Tial WG .7 bar K27/29 hybrid turbo 7.5:1 3.4L Mahle kit Since 2014, Helga is no longer a garage queen and she is driven weekly. I am enjoying this car like never before. As for pics, below is a link to GMP using Helga to advertise their RH wheels. BTW, she has been lowered since these pics and is no longer riding Manhattan height :P https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/930-turbo/377561-porsche-930-turbo-rh-speedline-wheels-gmp-performance.html https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/930-turbo/377561-porsche-930-turbo-rh-speedline-wheels-gmp-performance.html |

What a difference!! No wonder you drive it more now, I would too. Quote:

Wow Chris! That's quite a list. Love the name Helga. So fitting.
And pickup trucks try to mess with you? Is it the turned up diesels guys that think their truck is fast? I hope to have close to the power you're putting down by next spring. Right now it's stock so I usually don't race people. I'd hate to embarrass myself. If I let them race themselves they usually don't do it twice. The Audi was being overly aggressive and annoying. I was happy when she went into second smoothly and stayed in the boost. :D Rawknee the American muscle has surprisingly not messed with the 930 around here. But I have yet to pull up next to a modern Corvette. I can see Texas as being more of an American Muscle place. Maybe I'm making to general of an assumption. Around here there is a fairly high percentage of European cars. More Ferraris and Lamborghinis than I would even expect. The Mustangs and Camaros are kids cars (part of the reason I'm giving mine to my son) and the Corvettes are still the Grey hair Ex Hot Rod guys. Yesterday was a strange day to have 4 cars act the same way. Overall I don't understand the mentality that you have to "Race" every performance car you pull up next to. Do these guys do this to every performance car? Or is the Porsche Turbo sill the king in their minds and when the opportunity arrives they want to see what we've got? |
I used to be one of those kids back in the day when i owned a toyota gts coupe with nitrous and two trash can muffs comming out of both sides just before the rear tires.

I get 'invites' on occasion around the Seattle/Tacoma I-5 corridor. Most of the time I get thumbs up's or just recently, cellphone pics from the passengers.
I was on my way home last month from visiting my bio-mom (I'm adopted, and just recently found her.. another story) and cruising North on I-5 just south of Tacoma. It was about 10pm and all of a sudden, a gaggle of random imports pass me. Honda's, WRX's, Datsuns, etc... I got a thumbs up from most of them while they would quickly and aggressively pull up next to me and revved their engines. I didn't take the bait. I was about a mile from my exit onto 512 when a little Nissan came up next to me and tried to egg me on. Something I rarely do: I let him have it and dropped it into 4th. A short burst and bye-bye! I quickly slowed and he caught up to me and passed with a thumbs up. I think some of it is just "Let me see it go!" rather than an actual race invite. It was fun though. A few weeks later I was at a go-cart track in Tukwila for a friend/co-workers birthday and this young kid was starring at me. I walked past and he stopped me and said: 'I think you and my Dad used to work together. May Dad is Scott...' Me: 'Oh yea, I remember you from the reunion last year.' Cool, how ya been?' Kid: 'Good, I see you got the Porsche here. I wondered if that was you a couple of weeks ago on I-5.' Me: 'What?! That was you in the Nissan?!' Kid: 'Ha, yea just a coincidence!' Small world. |

in the way. But I knew the road like the back of my hand and just went for it. The guy probably came in his pants and has a story to tell his favorite squeeze. We're magnets....face it. Just this weekend as probably the last ride prior to winter, some dude was on my ass at the stated 60 mph limit...I'm being nice and docile, confident in what I drive, but he just had to break the speed limit and pass me anyway. I let him get a couple hundred feet ahead then blew by him. Suffice it to say by the time I shifted to 4th, I would have been nabbed for reckless driving in the exess. Love it...........:D |

I don’t mind the occasional kid. I was young once too. It’s now the 25-35 crowd with their scruffy beard and a modern (usually a BMW or Audi) car that seems to peg the jackass meter. Sent from my iPhone while Driving |
There is a kid who’s dad owns one of the casinos and he drives lots of cool cars. He tries to race me in every car he has whenever he sees me. It’s been over a year since I’ve seen him since he only knows my car and I don’t know which one he’s in ever. Anyways a surprise for me that it’s him. So far he’s challenged me in an r8, amg 63 I think, the turbo one, the bmw i8 I think it’s called and so far I’ve been a good challenge for him and his cars. I walked the i8, stayed with the r8, same with the amg but I feel like if the road was longer I’m not certain. As far as from a dig forget it. My car sucks from a dig. I need 30roll to keep in the challenge. I just can’t avoid spinning my stock clutch. But from 30 on my little bastard is quick. Was quick.
I swapped that 930/51 for a built Carrera engine with efi. Nearly done. Still need a larger turbo than the gt30r with the extra cc’s but it’ll be fun for a bit. I wonder if I’ll ever see him in whatever new toy his daddy lets him flog. Now I expect to start at around 400hp and soon afterward try and see about 500. Should be fun. |
