Well that's easy. Someone put a 5 speed in there from an '89, and some other idiot counted reverse as a gear. Therefore, 6 speed.
I once took a 3 speed tranny in to diagnose a problem....from my old '69 CJ5 jeep which all came stock with 3 speeds. The transmission "expert" told me it was a 4 speed. I didn't leave it with him and fixed it myself.

I believe you just remove the torsion tube.

I was about to ask the same question yesterday, there is a 930 listed for sale on the RUF- automobile.de site 930 RUF CTR that also lists a 6 speed. Anything is possible just add time and money.

Cut out the center of the torsion bar housing, and that's just for starters. Then the center area between the rear seats is cut for clearance...
Time and money.

A gearbox is a torque multiplier, and if you've got a lot of torque, IMO the 5-speed is better suited. Seems like when I drive a 6-speed, I'm constantly having to shift gears.

I bet that car seemed cool when it was an idea.
Then he finished it and found out it's a hacked up 1979 930.

It could be a 993 gearbox if they cut the tunnel. I've seen it done a couple times. Like Chris said, I would rather have the 5spd.

It is what I have on my RUF BTR, I did not stop changing my speeds, I had a conical short couple, he(it) has eventually breaks, I replaced him(it) by a normal conical couple and my gearbox is now longer. 340km / hour in 6800tr / mn "theoretical".

You can see in the pictures that the transmission tunnel in the rear is much taller than a stock 911 to make room for the transmission.

There appears to be two fuse boxes in the fruck, never seen that before. I wonder how well the led headlights project through the plexiglass? covers.

RUF did have a 6 speed that one can use on a 930 with some mods. Patrick Motorsport had one for sale a few years back. They ended up using it on one of their RSR projects.

RUF R50.50 6-Speed Transmission Transaxle By Patrick Motorsports Porsche & Mid Engine Performance Specialists
I prefer this gearbox to a G50/20 factory gearbox installation. The reason for this is the synchros. The 1 piece synchro design of the G50 5spd for 1-2 is superior to the 993 3 piece versions, IMO. It is also shorter and requires less chassis "adjustment".

I tried to find an image of it, but Carquip had a 930 based Ruf 6spd on their Ebay store for a couple of years. Was pretty crazy looking. Even the google way back machine turns up nothing.

A "Protomotive" built car, they did some amazing work back in the day, so certainly don't deny the 6 speed and a car built by someone with extremely deep pockets.

In my opinion the car is trying too hard, might be the overuse of blue or maybe photoshop on the pictures...either way an impressive build...I bet it moves out quite nicely.
