$85k seems to be the number these days. I wonder if BaT is devaluing the brand? There are a lot on there!

BaT sets the value when you send in your info. If your reserve is higher than they want your ad is refused. They actually told me that. They devalued the car I sent in by 30% of my reserve price. Guess what, it sold privately for our reserve.

Glad to hear you got what you wanted, did it sell through Pelican?

After reading Brian's post you could be right about BaT trying to beat prices down, 30% is a long way from the market value.

sounds like a broker listed this car, not the owner. look at the pics in the "white room"
not sure i buy off on what brian said about a reserve unless the lister truly has no clue of what the car is worth(based on this car). unless I missed something that said the motor and tranny need rebuild, you don't list a car like that at 50k and HOPE it gets bid up to what you want for it.
also not sure why you would list it on BAT.

I had the same experience as Brian I sent my information to BAT and they set a ridiculously low reserve price. I asked them to come up 10K on the reserve which was still low and they refused. Saying most 930s sell well above the reserve anyway. This was not a chance I was willing to take. The comments are also a little ridiculous who cares if someone owned a similar car 40 years ago. The comments should address the car for auction and contain useful information.

So, they admit 930's sell well above the reserve. Seems kind of funny they don't adjust their reserve policy to more accurately reflect real market value.

I wonder if they do this across all makes and models? Seems kind of stupid to drive away business because of their lowball policy. I guess it's their prerogative, it's their business.

BaT lowballs reserves to increase the chances of a sale which is money in their pocket.
I also know that BaT lifts this policy for brokers and dealers, likely due to the volume of nice cars a dealer would bring. Dealers also tend to list cars higher than they would be worth if sold by an individual. I don't fully understand this phenomenon but I see it every day. Auctioning cars may be BaT's business but market manipulation should be unlawful.

the BROKERS(perhaps dealers too) are WAY more responsible market manipulation, I know for a fact.
i spent a year looking for a 930 once i decided to buy one. i spent a LOT of time looking at what they SOLD for, not listed for.
2 examples of broker manipulation.
found one for sale down in florida for 39k. when dealing with him i told him the car was about a 30k car and i would give him 34k(or maybe 32k), he was at 36k.
then i found where the past owner sold it to him for 28k. i called and told him what i found and that i thought my offer was a generous one. never heard back from him. oh, i also talked to the previous owner so i knew what the deal was with the car.

i saw another one where the owner had listed the car for around 30k. he had given it to a broker and the broker was listing it for over 40k.

i was extremely frustrated because it seemed like everybody was giving their cars to brokers and the prices were raised 10-20k on the actual value of the car. some dealers were even more.

brian i even talked to you about a car. high mileage and hi price.

this was just about the time the 930's were turning around in price but the buyers had not quite come to reflect the price increase because they were not selling.
go on ebay and take a look at the dealers listing cars for over 100k still.

i ended up with an 86 with 42k miles on it, original paint, a few mods and wiring not butchered for 36k. every time i get under this car and work on it i am amazed at its condition. my long time Porsche mech friend said it was the best driving 930 he had ever been in.

Yeh I don't understand why anyone would pay a dealer a jacked up price. They add no value and know nothing about the car. You're worse off and pay more money. Fixing one up to flip it is a little different as (hopefully) value is added.

Didn't your car have issues that you had to spend time and money on to fix engine issues?

Did you get the problems fixed or are you still chasing gremlins?

That's priceless. Well, maybe not literally, but if you're ever the one stuck working on an old car, it's really, really nice to have a virgin wiring system.
