Car seats for the back seat - '87 930

Finally found a good way to stick my boys in the back. First, since my '87 only had lap belts we had to fab a good shoulder belt solution. I think it came out great. Then, the biggest challenge was finding car seats to fit in the back. We got these from Buy Buy Baby, which was nice since they would brings car seats out to the parking lot for a test fit. Talk about quite the show - a cart full of car seats and two guys drooling over the car, whilst various mothers walking by shaking their heads.

Needless to say, the boys are hooked, mom is happy, and the 4 of us fit quite comfortably. All this means is that I now get to drive it more often Happy happy.

Its 1000% times easier with the high back boosters you have over the real car seats the little ones require. I did the same thing in 2012. Now I can ride with all three. My 12 year old up front and the 4 year olds in the back.

HAHA, cute kids. That looks fantastic. Great job! Always wanted to do myself. Be safe with the fam, these cars are mighty tiny compared to the modern behemoths out there nowadays...

Thanks guys, it's been a blast so far.

OldSpool, I agree. It was hard enough finding a small base booster seat. Not sure how I'd fit an actual car seat.

The biggest challenge is moderating expectations when every 5 minutes they ask to "Go Fast, Daddy!". They love the boost as much as me.

Tippy, I agree, safety is first, I'm just thrilled they've gotten to enjoy it as much as me.

Love it !!!!

My kids still love riding in the back seats. at 7 and 10 no more boosters.. Just boost, I can't wait for them to be old enough to ride in the front without mom saying something.

Life is about memory's

I had to do the same 3 point rear seat belt conversion. It was super easy, but I did remove my rear luggage panel and just put carpet in.

I think one of the best things about owning the car is sharing it with my kids.

The other day my wife and I were talking about buying a new home (our house a small 3 bedroom/ 1 bath with 3 kids) and I asked them if I should sell the Porsche so we could get a new house, the two that can talk emphatically said NO to selling the car. I was a proud poppa!

Excellent!! Glad you're giving your kids the ''sickness'' too!
Now with 4 kids I can't say I'm taking the kids for a day out with daddy to give mom a day off but I still manage to get 3 in there and give her some sort of a bread

Rich - that's awesome. I'm hoping to get the same response if necessary in the future. Also love that they enjoy washing the car too!

Love it. I'm still at the convertible car seat phase w/ my 2.5yr old. But we get her in the back of our '74 Carrera Targa and '77 930. Still only lap belts but I got aftermarket set that's a bit easier to tension and found a car seat that's relatively low profile. Requires some effort and padding underneath to get it snug but doable and totally worth it.

Nothing beats giving your little kid(s) a ride in these things! My children were already grown up when I acquired my 930 so I'll have to wait for future grandkids.

Roby - I feel that's most of our dinners.

Lee - we only had lap belts only and fabbing in a shoulder belt with an anchor point in the rear deck wasn't overly complicated. And looking at it, you'd never know it was aftermarket.

Brian - Haha, I agree. My wife is a Longhorn (so she was happy) although I'm a Florida Gator but all they had in-store was Texas and Aggie colors, and they would have had to order the Florida ones. My impatience got the better of me, but I played it off with the wife as though it was my compromise with her for getting the 930 to begin with Win-Win...

I only have lap belts and I use a Britax marathon, I have removed the swivel base as I don't need it to face back and I installed an anchor on the seat back hinge on the car. I clip the seat rear anchor to that anchor strap (anchor strap came with the seat) and with that tight, and the lap belt fed through the ''rear facing'' holes on the seat, it is there nice and snug.
You have to feed the belt through the ''rear facing'' routing because the 911 seat belt anchors are too much forward.

I don’t know about you guys but I had factory rear seat anchoring points for a 3 point seatbelt in my car.

I found a set of rear 3 point belts for sale in the parts for sale section, and they bolted right in. No drilling no nothing.

I did have to remove the rear panel and replace it with carpet though. I could have cut a hole in the panel and kept it in place, but I didn’t want to ruin a perfectly good rear panel.

Looking forward to putting some miles on soon. My car has been parked since mid December.

I think all 911 and 930 since 1985 (or 1984) are ''fitted for but not with'' 3 point seat belts. They were mandatory in some countries in Europe so the shell all got the anchor holes and welded nuts in place but the 3-point seatbelt was not installed on US cars (or on German cars as mine is a grey market and still doesn't have the actual belts installed. I purchased the kits and a rear shelf from a 964 but it needs some work before I can install the shelf back on (warped and needs new leather) but now that the kids grow up, they will need 3-point and not the Britax anymore.
