Difficulty removing con rod off of crankshaft
Sorry for the odd/silly question, but I have more time than money and don't want to damage anything.
1989 3.2 Carrera engine rebuild. ~ 220K miles with NO top end or case work. All rods spin very smooth. Not much free play from what I can tell. Have crankshaft sitting up on work bench with flywheel for base. Removed nuts from first connecting rod, and figured it would more or less "fall off". Nope. pulled pretty hard. Nothing. tiny wiggle. Nothing. Do I need to tap out the bolts with a soft mallet first? Has anyone ever experienced this? I don't want to gorilla anything when I don't have any experience with any of this. Neither Wayne's book or Bentley say anything about difficulty with separating rod halves. Thanks! Mark |
Just put the nuts back on a couple turns and tap with hammer.
You won’t ruin anything as the bolts are not reused again If you lay the crank down with the nose to the left, turn all rods toward you the stamped match numbers are up. Write them down and reinstall same position. Bruce |
Awesome. Thanks Bruce.
