What engine is this?
Anyone know what type of engine this is? This is the only picture I have and I am trying to determine what it is from. I am completely guessing it is 911 Thanks and sorry I don't have anything better to go off of. Plyhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1532385171.jpg

911’s never came with 4 cylinders.

Looks like a VW type 4 used in the 914

It’s a VW Type 4 / Porsche 914 engine. Can’t tell from your pic exactly which one, but from the plug locations, it looks like a 1.7 or 1.8. If you post the serial number, we can tell.
I just sold one on eBay auction for $150. Most eBay sellers are living on fantasy island and are asking like $3000 for these things. Market value (what someone will actually pay is maybe $50-$200) Just eBay auction it it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Yes, oil dipstick location leads towards a Porsche 914 variant of the VW motor. the VW Bus had the dipstick in a different location IIRC.

that is from a boat. specifically the anchor type

LOL, that’s good. Note, I have one of these boat anchors in the back of my Porsche 912e at the moment. It’s really dragging down what would otherwise be a great car. That’s why I’m Subaru swapping it. It actually costs as much if not more to rebuild these bus engines than it does a proper 911 engine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
You can get a ton of power out of one of those with the correct mods. Not cheap though.

There’s an old saying, you can (1) make a lot of power, (2) build it cheap, (3) have it last and be reliable.
With most engines, you can pick two. With the Type4, you can pick one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
